Broken Rake Lavender Farm

Broken Rake Lavender Farm Broken Rake Lavender Farm grows pesticide-free lavender and produces products pleasing to the senses and beneficial to the skin.

We have about 80 plants, 5 different varieties. It's about as many as I can grow and harvest on my own. The Sierra Nevada foothills are a perfect environment for growing lavender. We are at nearly the same latitude as Spain, Switzerland and Northern Italy, and lavender thrives there. At 2000 foot elevation however, I've learned that the varieties I grow must be hardy with tough leaves because of o

ur colder winters. The plants love our soil's pH and the hot summer with dry heat. In 2010, forty lavender plants were planted of 5 different varieties. The colors vary from deep purple to white. In 2012, 21 more plants were added in an nearby area. Some varieties haven't done so well and I have replaced them with my personal favorite "Grosso" lavender.
