What a difference! For the last couple months this pen has served as a hospital/fancy sheep pen. The show sheep were fed special food here so anyone who needed special care came here too. None of the “hospital” sheep had anything contagious, most just needed a bit of pampering, except for Chai who had a pretty severe foot injury. She was contagious! Her personality, that is… she hates us and would get so stupid in her freak out at just seeing me that she made even some of the friendly sheep go crazy and run from me! I was developing a complex! lol! But Chai is gone…back to the paddock on the other side the barn and this pen is now where we have donor recip ewes that make me appreciate Chai and her freaked out minions leaving me alone… these clowns climb me and push me and beg for attention. It is a bit much! The whole time I am feeding the lambs they are begging for treats and attention… they are a pain, but I love them all and they make me smile! Silly goofballs!

This morning when we pulled up to the farm I thought, I wonder what Swirl looks like?”
That is because I hand sheared the wool off her back in the dark last night. Now after seeing her… what do you think? Do you think I can still be a dog groomer if I lose my eyesight? I must admit, she looks way better than I thought she would! A bit rough, but hey, for my first time shearing in braille, not too bad! lol!

Look at that triticale grow! It’s nearly 5 inches tall, it is starting to tiller, it is strong enough to break when pulled, without uprooting! All criteria it needs to meet before the sheep go out on it. I think this weekend we will set up electric fence inside the pen the sheep are in, to reinforce to the them that electric fence is not to be disrespected, and then get them ready to get out in the field the weekend after that for short periods of time so they get used to eating fresh greens again and can go out for the winter!

I want to start by thanking all the wonderful Valais Blacknose exhibitors who came over to me and told me they personally are praying for our Son-in-law, Billy, to beat the health issues caused by West Nile disease. Many said they have their whole church community praying, that means so much to us, thank you

I wasn’t good at taking photos this year, I was having so much fun catching up with old friends and making new ones that I forgot to use my camera! I will post some of what I did manage to get.
Once again, I had so much fun with Candy and her Spring Creek Valais and am grateful we met and only live around an hour from each other, it is awesome to have a friend that close to cause havoc in the sheep world with!

The costumes this year were stellar! I had planned one, but with Billy’s illness, I spent the time I planned to assemble it watching the 2 and 5 year old boys…it was a great concept, but it also was not going to beat the ones that were there! You have challenged me to step it up for next year!

And, last but not least, thanks to Tina and Scott Starkweather for throwing a great party in celebration of the best sheep in the world. I can’t wait to return next year!
