I’m trying to get more steps in, and tonight I decided to take the road less traveled.
Instead of the usual suspects—roads, sidewalks, or treadmills—I wandered into the pasture with the ponies.

And while I wasn’t gifted a pink sky tonight, I was gifted something just as beautiful: the simple joy of walking through a freshly mowed pasture, surrounded by the quiet beauty of it all.

An able body. A peaceful evening. Fresh air. And a heart full of gratitude for the gift of being able to experience it.

Sometimes the blessings aren’t dramatic or painted across the sky. Sometimes they’re found beneath our feet.

Happy Sunday, friends.

We're thinking about testing a new business model: "Pick Your Own Honey" at the farm.

Who's in? 😄

Just joshing! 😂 Any fellow '90s kids remember that phrase?

Happy Friday, friends!

We checked out a flower farm tonight out of sheer curiosity. I couldn't help wondering whether growing flowers might give our buzzing ladies a reliable buffet once the alfalfa, clover, and basswood call it a season.

We spotted plenty of pollinators hard at work... but not a single honey bee. Go figure.

So now we're left wondering: are we beekeepers who need flowers, or future flower farmers who happen to keep bees? Oh-and I don’t have green thumb. Good thing the muses have worked at a farm and learned a thing or two.

Although it’s Sunday funday and the stand is usually out, it’s not out quite yet. Fun fact-the Metropolitan Mosquito Control District (MMCD) routinely uses our culdesac as a temporary place to land a helicopter for ‘operation mosquito eradication.’ Our MMCD friends advised they are working on Sunday as the recent rain prompted them to drop their magic pellets. The pellets affect mosquito larvae and not pollinators. Whew. We will put the stand down later this afternoon when the MMCD is done doing their important job. Happy Sunday!

Bees+keepers of the law+Matthew McConaughey. We're a little excited to see this movie. Speaking of hive/bee theft, we strongly suggest watching Rotten-S1E1 on Netflix if you have 45 minutes to immerse yourself into why one should buy local honey. Happy Saturday friends!

This fella wandered past our trail camera at the farm early this morning. As much as I enjoy wildlife, a bear isn't exactly the kind of neighbor I'm hoping drops by for a visit. 🐻😳Especially as a beekeeper. The apiary appears untouched this morning-but a fortified electric fence has been added to Adam’s honey-do list for today. No pun intended. Fun fact-bears can smell honey from up to a mile away. Happy Wednesday friends!

I’m a visual learner, so here’s the difference between a booming hive and a struggling one.
One is giving Tower of Pisa vibes, leaning under the weight of all that honey. 🍯

The other? I call it The Little Hive That Could. It keeps chugging along, and I’m cheering it on... though I’m not entirely convinced it’s going to chug its way through winter.

And on another note, I managed to keep my smoker lit the entire time without my honey there to rescue me. I’m counting that as a personal beekeeping victory. 🐝

The employee of the day, Frankie the barn feline, says the stand is down at the end of the driveway and is open for egg and honey connoisseurs this hot Sunday. Stay cool friends!

Adam has a gift. Seriously... he's a queen-finding machine. 👑🐝

Meanwhile, I can stare at a frame for what feels like an hour and still miss a queen... even when she's wearing a bright paint dot. 😂

This hive decided it was time for a new queen, and here she is. Think you can spot her?

💡 Hint #1: I almost put this frame right back into the hive... and probably would have squished her because she was hanging out on the very edge of the frame. That would've been awkward—they would've needed another queen to lead the colony.

💡 Hint #2: Baby got back. 🍑👑🐝

Drop a comment if you find her!

I get pretty jazzed about bees…and my honey and his smoker. Happy Monday-the heatwave is almost done! Or so they say…
