Little Abe Farm

Little Abe Farm We are a small family-owned farm in the beautiful Shenandoah Valley of Virginia. We raise commercia

Owned by Kent and Melinda Armentrout, our farm is located on property that was once a part of the Lincoln Homestead. The Lincoln Homestead was owned by Abraham Lincoln's grandparents, and thus the name of our farm "Little Abe Farm." We raise a large variety of produce that we not only consume for personal use but also sell at the Shenandoah Valley Produce Auction.

Although it’s winter, there’s still activity on the Farm.
Our two small gardens (what remains from our Farmers Market Days) were tilled yesterday before the rains today.
Harvested collards and kale from the garden this week. A large head of cabbage last week. Spinach is hanging on but it’ll be put to bed this week until spring.
We’ve spent some time playing in the kitchen making a WinterJam with fresh cranberries and red raspberries from the freezer. The perfect sweet and tart combination.
Use this time to be creative and resourceful

6 + inches of rain from about 11pm Friday night until about 9pm on Sunday. Add that to the over 6 inches last weekend and the farm is a muddy mess.
Our back garden has large areas of standing water. My tomatoes didn’t stand a chance save for two cherry tomatoes (does anything really do those in?). I may have 2-3 sweet peppers survive. Oh well, didn’t need to can those this year anyway.
Hopeful for a late garden but going to put it in the front garden that drains better (and hope for some August rain).

Folks, the Valley is dry, dry, dry. Crops and animals are suffering and it’s not even August.
Please pray for rain and relief.

My project this weekend has been canning venison meat chunks. I decided to make some ready to eat stew jars as well.
