We had a wonderful tour group come out one evening this past week to learn about lavender and pick bouquets. After that, they toured our sawmill, vacuum kiln, and custom furniture business.

I made Lavender-Ginger Lemonade, which is absolutely delightful. It's a refreshing mix of bright lemon, zing from ginger, and light floral undertones from dried lavender buds. Many visitors said they really liked it and they had never tasted anything like it.

Peace and beauty await you this weekend. Come over, we welcome you and the special people in your life. And yes, some of...

Nearly five rows of lavender haven't even started blooming yet this summer! Our remaining rows have bloomed and I am dead-heading plants to encourage rebloom.

We are CLOSING TEMPORARILY starting Tuesday, July 22, 2025. I will announce when we will reopen again -- probably towards the end of August 2025. Then we should be open until hard frost in October after that.

Thank you everyone for coming out to pick lavender in our "first round" this summer, and we appreciate your understanding while we wait for more lavender plants to start blooming.

Most sincerely, Nancy

My favorite berry!! Did you guess? That's right -- Black Currants! The jam is so deep and rich. Incredible flavor. I have two more bushes to pick to put up more jam.

I might have some gooseberries left on a few bushes and some champagne currants on one small bush to pick. After that, I'll wait for Elderberries. Then this fall, I will have Seaberries (aka Sea Buckthorn) and Gojis to pick. It's exciting to have my berry bushes start to bear fruit.

This is the first year my female Seaberry bush has enough berries on it to pick for jam. The berries are green now, but they will turn orange in the autumn.

We'll see how my Goji bushes survive Japanese Beetles this year. Last year, the JBs devoured every leaf on the Gojis. Despite that, the Gojis bore berries last year, and I was very surprised.

I'll post an update about our lavender very soon. Such an unusual year -- some lavender plants are just starting to bloom, and some plants are finishing their first bloom. I expect we will have a nice second round of flowers in early fall. More later!

Hope to see everyone in our lavender field soon! Warmly, Nancy

Hi everyone, Nancy here -- owner and manager of the lavender farm. I have talked to many customers when they come out to pick lavender, and everyone seems interested in learning more about growing lavender, and about our farm. I have given presentations to groups, too. Lots of these groups plan on eating at Baxa Sutliff Store & Tavern. They pick lavender either before or after their lunch or before their dinner.

If I set a time each week to be in the field to give a short presentation about lavender and our farm, would you try to come out at that time to learn more? Please respond in comments below. If you have specific questions you would like me to address in a presentation, or in a FB and Instagram post, please respond in comments below. I love getting to know our customers. You all have such interesting lives and stories to tell, too. I am often in the field so if you see me, feel free to introduce yourself and say hello. Most sincerely, Nancy

P.S. That's me a few years ago in front of my wheat field on my family farm in Illinois, when we hosted a field day for Practical Farmers of Iowa
