Dear Families,

We want to make sure families are aware of resources available throughout the summer. USDA works closely with states to ensure that children who receive free or reduced-price school meals can get the nutrition they need when schools are closed for summer break. Through USDA's summer meal programs, approved sites in communities across the country serve meals and snacks to kids 18 and younger at no cost. Families can use the Summer Meals Site Finder to find directions to nearby meal sites, as well as their hours of operation and contact information.

To find a meal site near you, please visit the USDA Summer Meals Site Finder: https://www.fna.usda.gov/sfsp/sitefinder -item2

Simply enter your address or ZIP code to view nearby locations, meal times, and contact information. No application is required.

We hope this resource helps ensure that all children have access to healthy meals while school is out.

Have a safe and enjoyable summer!

Sincerely,
Litchfield School District Dining Services

Attention Campbell High School - Home of the Cougars Students/Parents: The May menu was incorrect and has been updated!

Originally, the early release for the senior project night was May 14, and it was rescheduled to the 21st. This was overlooked on the menu, and has since been corrected and reposted on the district website!

Please feel free to reach out to Lauren Crowley ([email protected]) with any questions regarding the change!

Sorry about that!
Sincerely,
Lauren

Today is National School Lunch Hero Day! Today we celebrate with school nutrition professionals all across the country that serve countless meals to our students every single day!

Arguably, we have the best celebration, as we're still on April vacation!!

When we return to school next week please be sure to say a HUGE THANK YOU to our fantastic school lunch staff! They work extremely hard behind the scenes to produce great meals for our students!

New this year at CHS during April and May on our express line, Smoothie Bowl Bar!!!
Students start with a base of lowfat vanilla yogurt and can customize their toppings with a variety of fruit (we have strawberries, blueberries, pineapple and bananas today!) and add a little fun with a sprinkling of granola, sprinkles or other goodies! Coupled with a whole grain muffin and this meal is completely reimburseable! What would you choose!?

We've certainly heard it all, but I have to say, not quite like this! Happy Weekend Everyone!

Yesterday, we had the honor of welcoming Senator Maggie Hassan to Litchfield Middle School for 8th grade lunch! 🍎🥦
During her visit, Senator Hassan spoke with Dining Services Director Lauren Crowley and LMS Principal Jen Grantham, to discuss both the opportunities and ongoing challenges school nutrition programs face each year—especially when it comes to funding. Did you know that federal reimbursement rates for school lunch programs are intended to cover not just food, but also labor, utilities, equipment, and repairs? With reimbursement at only around $4.70 for a free student meal, districts are often left designing menus with just about $1.25 per serving for food.

Beyond these important conversations, Senator Hassan took the time to connect directly with our students and kitchen staff, making the visit even more meaningful. Our LMS team proudly showcased a variety of fresh fruits, fresh vegetables, and convenient grab-and-go options, alongside a delicious hot lunch entrée of teriyaki chicken, brown rice, and broccoli.

One of the highlights of the day? Our students had the opportunity to interview the Senator—and they absolutely knocked it out of the park! 🎤👏

Overall, it was a truly positive and engaging visit, and we are grateful to Senator Hassan for spending time in our schools and supporting school nutrition programs. 💙
