Happy Saturday, friends of the farm!

This is one of the most abundant times of the years for our gardens. Not to be missed this week are our own beautiful pears, delicious cantaloupes and watermelons (supplies are starting to be limited on those) and organic peaches from our employee Jen’s tree. Crowd favorites like beans, cucumbers, eggplant, and summer squash are still plentiful. We have a limited supply of the much sought after lettuce too! And then there are the tomatoes! We have a huge supply of tomatoes and we’re able to offer bulk canning tomatoes to walk ins for only $21 for a 25 pound box. They are very clean and a great deal. If you’re not a canner, you can freeze them for winter soups, sauces, and chili.

We’re still baking as much as we can. This is always a very difficult week in the kitchen as all of our staff with school obligations have cut back or finished for the year, but our wonderful summer customers are still here. So far, we’ve managed to mostly keep up (we’re literally running at times) but still patience may be required! Yesterday was so busy that we sold out of large chocolate creams but we did make more this morning which should be cooled and creamed by noon.

As always, we’re on the Huntington Hill Rd in Litchfield and open 9-6 every day. Thanks for your support. Peace! ❤️

Have you ever wondered what it takes to keep our store stocked with fresh corn?

In today’s video, Tom takes you out to our corn patch and talks about the work that goes into growing enough corn for our customers throughout the season. Come check it out!

Happy Saturday! It’s been a great week at Applewald Farm. Our first pickle class was a huge success. I’ll be contacting a few folks from the list soon for another round.

Thanks to our helpers we do finally have refrigerator pickles ready. Our mist excellent cantaloupes are also available. We’re running low on canning tomatoes today but should have more tomorrow by mid morning. The corn continues to be good. The eggplant and tomatoes are particularly good this year (likely due to dryer conditions).

The bakery has been working hard and the chocolate cream, coconut cream, and key lime pies are plentiful. (especially the large size). This is peak vegetable season- don’t miss it! As always, open 9-6 on the Huntington Hill Rd in Litchfield. 😊

I had so much fun hosting the pickle making class with 9 wonderful people yesterday. I’m filled with gratitude for their help. Pickles will go on sale this afternoon, but for the best flavor you should keep them for 4 days before eating them all 🙂.

The attendees were so enjoyable, that I will definitely do this again soon. We had nearly 25 people interested, so I will continue to reach out to folks on the list. If you’d like to get yourself added for this free class, send me your name, phone number, and availability. Hope your day is as wonderful as mine was yesterday.

Happy Saturday! Today we have most of the things! Melons are coming in strong. If yours isn’t excellent, we will happily replace it. No more lousy melons! We also have a limited amount of our own peaches. The bakery is well stocked too. 🙂

It’s a gorgeous day. Thanks for supporting small farmers (and bakers!).

UPDATE: we have had a good number of volunteers. Yay!! However, some people can’t message us (Meta platform stuff) except on WhatsApp. It will all be much easier if folks who want to help send me a text on their phone at 207-268-9276. If you don’t have the ability to text, you can call or try messenger. If you already volunteered and I answered you, please send me your phone number. I’ll probably communicate mostly through text since facebook can be fickle!

Hello friends! So many people have reached out asking about the refrigerator pickles. Well, we finally have enough cucumbers to begin them, but finding the time needed has been a mighty struggle. I was wondering, would anyone be interested in attending a free fridge pickle making class?

I could share recipes, and together (in a group of no more than 4) we could make a bunch for the public. I was thinking that I could teach you all I know about the process in about two hours, and you could walk away with knowledge, confidence, and even one of the first containers of your favorite kind of pickle.

If you would enjoy this (and we generally do have fun in the Applewald kitchen), please message me through text 207-268-9276 with days of the week and times that you would be available. I’d like to set up 3 or more small group sessions. I don’t think we could do this before noon since the morning is consumed with baking. Please let me know what you think- is this a crazy idea?
