“God will not permit any troubles to come upon us, unless He has a specific plan by which great blessing can come out of the difficulty.” ~Peter Marshall
God had a plan for us when my husband was laid off at the end of January 2013 after being employed with the same company for almost 10 years. We didn’t know what the plan was at the time however we would make it through, together as a family. Th
is was a huge kick to his gut as well as our pocketbook since he was the “bread maker” in the family. This job lost presented us with a few challenges… one being the lack of a two person income. How were we going to make ends meet on just one income with a family of 4? We cut back on A LOT of “luxuries” like going out to eat, going to the movies, having a big birthday party for the kids, etc. In April, our son requested a SpiderMan cake for his 5th birthday. Having someone make a custom cake is considered a luxury for us. I did call around to check prices for a custom SpiderMan cake and found the cheapest to be $65. At the time, we could not afford to pay someone that kind of money so I decided that I would attempt this cake decorating thing. I spent hours on YouTube looking at different tutorials on how to decorate a cake to resemble SpiderMan. Our little man was able to help out with the cake decorating process which made the experience more memorable. I posted the finished cake on my page and I got so many compliments and people saying that I should start an in-home cake making business.
“You should start an in-home cake making business.” That comment stuck with me for a few days and it was much talked about between my husband and I. I have never taken any classes in cake decorating and wasn’t sure if I could even do this while working a full-time job. However when you are pressed with a troubled situation, you do what you are able to do to make the best of the situation at hand. We decided that I would start taking orders from a few friends just to see where things would go. This page was created so that I could get my name out there to others and to share our story. We were faced with many difficult challenges and it was our positive mindset and the blessing from above that we were able to overcome these challenges and grow stronger as a family. My husband was able to find a great job with the competitor company in the middle of the year and I was able to find a better job at the end of 2013. Our family has been blessed beyond words and many thanks to everyone that has supported Victoria’s Sweets!
