Another fun trip to Cattleman's Congress! Caylee and Ryan brought home 5 buckles and 3 banners this year. The joy of the kids seeing their cattle friends makes my heart full. We went down a day earlier this year to go adventure. We brought the kids to the Oklahoma City Bombing Memorial, Stockyards and of course some shopping. Emma and Caylee got to visit the Governor's mansion to represent the British White breed, meet other cattle breed queens and the Secretary of Agriculture for Oklahoma. Caylee won showmanship for her age group , Reserve Grand Champion Heifer and Bred and Owned with Lavender. Ryan got Reserve Grand Champion with his steer Pickle in junior and open show. Here's some pictures of our little vacation and the cattle.
Thanks to Shallow Creek Farms for letting the cattle run for a day from the long trailer ride. Josh and Chalet Langhoff for making them look pretty before the show. Dana McHann for using infrared on Harlow.

Molly's Saddle Giveaway 🤠
I'm Caylee and this is my horse, Ace. He's a such a sweetie. I've been a member of 4-H for 4 years now and just started gaming events. His saddle is 10 years old and I'm growing out of it. I would love for him to have a better saddle.

Annual June update: Ryan and Caylee went to McPeak's Be A Champ Show Cattle & Lamb Camp in Warner, Oklahoma in early June. This was Caylee's first year. We also brought our british white friends daughter with us too. Kids LOVED it and want to go back next year.
The county fair was a HUGE success besides it raining almost everyday and the tornado warning! All Caylee and Kate's horse shows were cancelled due to the rain. Sad that Carrots and Ace were in their stalls and the girls only got to ride them a few times due to the rain.

Caylee won junior showmanship and took 3rd in premier showmanship. She also took 1st her summer yearling heifer Lylah and 1st in overall breeding heifer.
Ryan took 3rd with cow/calf pair( Marley May and Megan) and his herdmanship was top notch. The 4th day of the fair we didn't see that young man all day. He was helping set up the stage for the band Hairball to play that night. He got to meet the band and was pretty excited about that even though he has never heard of them.
Emma took 2nd with her cow/calf pair (Rosie and Randy) And 2nd with her spring yearling heifer River. Emma also got reserve grand champion overall in open show with her cow/calf pair. The judge stated if her cow was painted black nobody would have known she was british white. There was alot of colors in that ring. So nice to know more judges are out there understanding the breed.
Kate is still loving the cloverbud life. She brought in 4 projects, showed Megan the calf and Carrots her pony.
Here's a photo dump of all the fun times this month. A special thanks to Jodi Olson who drove up to watch the kids show and take some pics. We bought our first 5 cows from her 6 years ago and fell in love with the breed.

Only a few weeks late...What else is there to do when its -24 degrees out this morning...Cattleman's Congress was a hit! Emma and Ryan have only been showing these beauties for the last four years and Caylee joined them this last year, and boy have we been proud of the progress that they have done. Caylee won her class with Lylah and got grand champion in her division. Ryan go won his class with Johannah and got reserve grand champion in his division. Emma got second with Maggie and fourth with River.
One of the best things about going to the Congress is seeing old friends and meeting new ones. It warms my heart for our kids to see their friends from all over the U.S. Even Australia and Mexico this year! Like minded people under the same roof is all we could ask for! Now onto the county fair and cow camp in June.

June is always so busy for us. Now we have some some time to take a breath. Ryan went to McPeak's Be A Champ Show Cattle & Lamb Camp in Warner, OK with some BW friends. This was his second year and it shows. Caylee wants to join him next year. Then came the county fair. Ryan took Reserve Grand Champion with his heifer Johanna. Emma took 2nd in her class with Maggie and Caylee took 3rd with Raven. Dewey the bull took 1st in his open class. Kate is still cloverbud and enjoyed every minute. Caylee also took Reserve Grand Champion for showmanship. The bond she has with Raven is so sweet. We were happy the county fair judge is looking at our breed being we are showing against angus and shorthorn. The kids had a big surprise on show day. Jodi Olson and Jen Rath drove up to watch the kids show. What an honor for all of us to see them. Caylee also took 3 blue ribbons with Carrots the pony in horse events. After the county fair we had to prepare for Emma's graduation party. Hockermans Hillview Farm drove over 5 hours to celebrate with us. It's going to be different without her here in the fall. Now we are preparing for our oldest (Issac) wedding on the farm in August.

Over MEA weekend in October, the kids showed off all their hard work from the summer at the MN Beef Expo. This was the first time Kate got to come on the road and experience the fun and meet our British White cattle friends. It’s fun to watch our kids be so excited to see their friends and meet new ones. There was even a family that drove all the way from Pennsylvania. Ryan was awarded 2023 herdsman by our cattle group. He even was featured in our cattle association journal.

After the Expo, we had two months to prepare for Cattlemen’s Congress in Oklahoma City. Long hours of Eric remodeling the barn so we have a place to wash and dry cattle in the cold months. This was our third year attending this event and we were brave enough to bring four kids and five head of cattle. The long 14-hour drive was worth it. A big thank you to Shallow Creek Farms for letting us keep our cattle at your house so they could unwind before we stalled them at the Congress. Caylee has developed such a strong bond with her heifer Raven since the county fair in June. It paid off at Cattlemen’s Congress with her winning Junior Showmanship and taking first place in her class. Ryan was in the same class as Caylee with his heifer Johanna and ended up taking second. Ryan worked hard all summer and bought Johanna and a two-year-old heifer to start his own herd. Emma showed Dewey taking 1st her class in the Junior show and 2nd in her class in Open show. Now we have a few months to prepare for the Morrison County Fair.
