We have bacon bits!! Peanut (my Kunekune sow) got busy yesterday morning and delivered 8 happy, healthy piglets (6 girls:2 boys)… or so I thought. She settled in after the fact and I took a drive to Tehachapi to the kid’s ranch - slightly postponed due to Peanut farrowing. Got home just as it was getting dark to find momma and all NINE piglets doing just fine…she snuck in one more while I was gone. A 3rd boy that evidently dove deep into the color gene pool!
🎶… one of these things is not like the others…🎶 🤣

Soooo about 2 months ago, I (on a whim) bought myself a new toy…a rock tumbler. Here are the results of my first attempt. All of these are just “yard rocks” - literally rocks I picked up in my yard. I know nothing about what type of rocks they are… just picked up what caught my eye. Not all that I started with made it to the finish, but I’m pretty pleased with those that did. Lots of room for improvement, but I learned quite a bit from this first go round. Already have my next batch picked out 😁

The “beef production unit” of our family ranch/homestead cooperative ( & ) has, after much anticipation, gotten with the program. 😁 On the last day of April, we welcomed this healthy, hefty, little bull calf… compliments of “Peach” our Charolais X heifer. Good to know our bull “Bowser” is doing his job (he’s young, & untried so we weren’t sure). Our other, younger heifer “Toad”, is also looking a bit “round”, so we are hopeful that we will be welcoming another little one soon. 🐮 🥩
