Chomp Chomp snuck into Le Nocturne for some snacks and wants to tell you all about it. First the food and then the ambience. Sorry if Chomp Chomp ruffles some feathers here, we were feeling very French!
Chomp Chomp had the tartare, the salad, the mushroom, the steak frites, the pommes puree, the caviar bump, the caviar blini, and the crème brûlée. Don’t make fun of Chomp Chomp! We like to eat! The tartare, salad, mushroom and crème brûlée were top notch. No notes. Worth the visit just for those item. The steak frites were a bit of a mess - overcooked with some type of chimchurri type sauce? Maybe Chomp Chomp just not classy enough, but Chomp Chomp pretty sure that’s not French! Also, they burnt the sauce. But Chomp Chomp forgive them because it’s soft opening.
Chomp Chomp likes the food. And we’d come back just for those Joel Robuchon styled mashed potatoes. But Chomp Chomp thinks the ambience is a mess. Chomp Chomp wonders if anyone working there (except Chef) has ever been to France? The walls do not feel French. The staff does not feel knowledgeable about French food. And the drinks are not French (only one French wine?). Again, soft opening, so we hope things change. But it’s summer in Livermore! It’s showtime! Buy some pictures of some fancy looking cats and some gold hardware and call it a day!
Lastly, Chomp Chomp does not like this DJ malarkey. Chomp Chomp does not need another restaurant turned club. We are here for the food. Not to bump our buns against tables that have been pushed to the side to make room for 7 drunkos with popped collars. Why can Chomp Chomp not enjoy nice wine and snacks late into the night? Chomp Chomp feels like the restaurant turned “club” thing died in 2008. Just be you, Le Nocturne!
Apple bottom jeans, le pommes purrrrr, Chomp Chomp got the whole club munchin haricot verttttttt.
