What looks like a smile is actually one of the most important behaviors in cattle reproduction. This is called the Flehmen response, and it happens when a bull picks up chemical signals, called pheromones, from a cow, usually in urine or reproductive fluids.
Instead of relying only on his nose, he curls his upper lip and holds his head up to draw those scents into the vomeronasal organ (Jacobson's organ) in the roof of his mouth. This specialized system allows him to detect whether a cow is in heat and ready to breed! It may look funny, but it's really just biology doing its job 🤠

It’s been a minute since I’ve posted and I am sorry! It’s been a busy week! Here’s what’s happened. We’ve added to our herd! 8 to be exact! I’ll share more soon! They are FANCY! The cheese making is in full swing! We made over 100 pounds of Raw cheddar this week 😮‍💨! Tomorrow is our 1 year anniversary for our scoop shoppe!! Hard to believe it’s been a YEAR! We’ve been hard at work restocking your favorite flavors. Say “Happy Anniversary” tomorrow and get a free little oak scoop of gelato!!
