Each day's work during our seed corn harvest starts well before sunrise for our picking crew. It's a great team effort in the fields to fill semis and haul the corn back to the plant by 7 a.m. Pics taken by picking crew.

Fall harvest for our seed corn production is well under way.
We understand that everyone has somewhere to be (us too) when traveling on roads. We kindly ask everyone to be cautious and careful when approaching, passing, or meeting farm equipment. PLEASE do not pass farm equipment in No Passing Zones - we want everyone to arrive at their destination safely.

Last week, we tried something new. We held a Joint Safety Training Event. Participating in the event were Hartung Brothers, Southwest Wisconsin Technical College, Livingston-Clifton Fire Department, Montfort Fire Department and Biddick, Inc, including our North 80 Logistics, LLC and 7 Foot Farm. Below is a little highlight of the training.

While the event focused on required safety training for employees, it was also a great opportunity to bring together business, education, and public safety organizations to share thoughts and ideas, learn from others and strengthen the strong partnerships we have with each other. A delicious meal was served and the event ended with a plant tour and feedback received.

Biddick, Inc. is an agricultural enterprise producing seed and cattle since 1906. 7 Foot Farm is a concept that pays tribute to family history, a love of land and cattle, and the individuals across eight generations who have adapted repeatedly to make it all happen.

Have you noticed these machines in the fields as you've passed by Biddick?

Machine cutting detasseling is the first step in creating hybrid seed corn - corn that grows stronger and produces more food than regular corn.

This is a specialized "cutter" machine that chops off the very top of female corn stalks. It removes leaves and exposes the tassel (the male part of the plant) so that follow-up machines and workers can easily pull the tassels out so the female plant doesn't self-pollinate.

The rows we leave uncut are the male rows that will pollinate the "female" corn to create the high quality hybrid seed corn we are known for.

Between Hopewell Rd and our Biddick, Inc. entrance is a Sunflower and Sweetcorn patch. There's even a driveway that goes right in front of the area where you can stop and take a picture..two or three with the sunflowers or pick a sunflower. The sweetcorn isn't ready yet, but stay tuned - we'll post when it is with further information.
