We have up to 30 Nannie’s up for discussion ranging from 2-5 years old (majority being 2-3 years old). These girls have been bred selectively to work, as we focus on low input, and least amount of handling possible. All exposed and running with the bucks, due to start kidding the 2nd week in March. Also have 9 yearling does available. Some big enough that will breed this year and some will not. Most available will be traditional boer coloring, as we will retain all our dapples. PM me with any questions or more details. I will post a couple videos in comments.

AVAILABLE FOR PICK UP DECEMBER 28th - JANUARY 1st

Hiked the hills on our farm to see what the herd is up to and what forage they’re selecting. This time of year in north Mo it’s fresh grasses (especially brome) and any bud they can find. Soon the grass will be unacceptable to them and it will be browse, broadleaf weeds and acorns until fall.

If you look closely on the horizon you’ll see the white head of Rosco, our champion and LGD. If not for him the coyotes would have already carried off half the kid crop. Hes earning extra praise and kibble and his favorite thing to do is trott around the pasture each morning and hear “good boy” from us while we inspect his tiny charges after his long, sleepless night.

2025 kidding began on February 26th. So far 15 does have produced 32 kids (includes 1 set of quads and 2 sets of triplets). Night time temps have been as low as 16 and some have struggled to get kids up, dry and nursing before the kids body temp plummets. For the most part, we’re amazed as usual at how fast a newborn is up and running in cold weather. Cold rain/wintery mix on the radar tonight 🤞

These girls are all worked and ready to get kidding season 2025 rolling starting March 1! They are thriving off grass hay, forage, and have not been supplemented with feed since flushing ended in October. We can’t wait to see how some of our first time moms do!

Overnight lows in the 20’s F and 30 mpg wind gusts means Does struggle to get kids dry and nursing before their body temperature plummets. Competent does will get twins up and running but not always triplets (or the one set of quads so far this season). Pasture kidding is still our preferred method of delivery but March temperatures in north Missouri vary from 20-80*F. This one has been more labor intensive than some.

Most mornings it’s necessary to bring a struggling kid in the house to warm, catch it’s mother in open pasture, strip colostrum and nurse her newborn along until it’s strong enough to live out in the cold temps and follow its mother while she grazes the new spring grass. Springs like this also create a few bottle kids as the stress affects the mothers’ ability to bond properly with her cold kid.

If your production style replicates ours: we wish you the energy it takes to aid in the survival of your young in adverse weather and the adaptability to cull hard when necessary in order to improve your program. Happy Kidding Season 🐐

This yearling delivered a quarter mile from the barn and stayed out all night. Predators were out in droves and Roscoe had to earn his chow. Good doe. Better dog.
