In Spain, they flinch if you call a sandwich a 'torta." It's a "bocadillo" in Espana. I see why they take it so seriously. Less than $6, for all this. Por Dios, what a meal!

Before the first drop of Texas Pete hot sauce was ever tasted, there was a dream in the great imaginations of the Garner family. Here’s their story.

Oppenheimer may have enjoyed one of these. It's a cool little story from BBC.

If New Mexico could have one state food, it would be the green chile cheeseburger, with each restaurant, diner and roadhouse cafe claiming to have the ultimate version.

Heads up, y'all! It's Pecos Canteloupe season. That wonderful time of year when you can get the tastiest Texas melons you can imagine. They're at HEBs right now. They can be kinda ugly on the outside, not like those fancy Arizona melons wrapped in little nets like a bottle of booze. Don't be fooled, they are thin-skinned, low on the seeds, and maybe the best cantaloupe you've ever had. This is the one that converted me, folks. Hurry, they'll be gone soon!

Del Cielo in Tulum:
This place is old school. Lots of healthy and vegetarian options, I gather this place has been here for a long time. I ordered a ham and Swiss cheese omelette, and it was delicious. It was accompanied by a salad with radishes and carrots and a couple different spring greens and some of the best mashed avocados with feta(?) crumbled over it. Really good. I was mildly put off by the salad. You hear so many stories about folks eating greens washed in local water and folks getting sick. I ate quite a bit of mine, but it made me uneasy. Not their fault, but mine. The other thing that may have contributed to my discomfort was how dark it was. But all said and done, I was fine, the food was fine, everything is fine. This place is RECOMMENDED.

A little bit on Story Horse Tulum, my favorite coffee shop:
I am lucky to be staying right across the street from this darling little coffee house. It is so comfortable and cool, not pretentious or snobby..BUT it is the best coffee I've had in Tulum, hands down. This town seems to revel in good coffee, but this relative newcomer has it going on. My only mild complaint, they're not open tomorrow (Sunday). I will be there will bells on Monday morning, my last AM in Tulum, and am planning on bringing some of their delightful roast home with me. Great baristas, love the pour over Americano (long black) and am proud to give Story Horse a HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

Night before last. Who knew you could find world class authentic Chinese in Tulum, Mexico? My review:
Sidewalk eating at its best. As the other reviews for this walk-up indicate, this place is THE BOMB. I had the Biang Biang, tender beef strips with green veg and a host of spices, and hand pulled noodles that you could stretch to the moon. Stunningly delicious. A nice fellow visitor shared one of her dumplings in Chili Sauce with me, and it took was to die for. Eating here in a cute neighborhood not far from the town square will make you want to live in Tulum. I am indeed guilty of that desire now. Well priced, try the delicious coconut water, served in a cold metal cup. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

I got lost this morning looking for my morning coffee. Drove all over, finally saw the Sea. And the development of the resort zone. Finally, I find this darling little place, literally right across the street from my hotel. Only problem, they don't open until 8. I'll drink more tonight and sleep later manana. Hahaha.

A Tulum staple of almost 20 years, the buzz about this place is al Pastor. Tacos, empanadas, everything al Pastor. I had 5 tacos al Pastor and a couple of Victoria Beers. Tacos, $15 a piece (pesos, not dollars). That's a little less than a buck a taco. $50 per beer (again, pesos). Me cuenta, $175. Threw in $25 for a tip, made it an even $200. That's about 12 bucks American, and I'm as full as a tick at a church picnic. Best al Pastor in the world? Maybe not. A screening deal right on Tulum's main drag. For sure. RECOMMENDED!
