Tapping some of our larger maples to make syrup. This one tree is currently flowing at up to 4 gallons a day! In Alaska we tapped our birch trees, but birch sap has a 110:1 ratio, meaning it takes 110 gallons of birch sap to make one gallon of birch syrup, whereas maples have closer to a 40:1 ratio. Here’s to the delicious homemade maple syrup in our near future!

I went to move the ducks to the coop the other day and realized that the entire floor was going to need to be replaced- immediately. So 3 days and a ton of hard work later, the ducklings are now out in their permanent home and our house is officially poultry free again!

It’s Duck and Turkey day! Today we welcomed 5 Artisan Gold, 4 Broad breasted Bronze, 1 Broad breasted white, 5 Pekins, 5 Cayugas, 5 Blue Swedish and 5 Golden 300 hybrids to our little zoo, and I couldn’t be more in love with them!
