Viola has decided it’s time for a new queen. See that peanut looking cell? That’s called a supersedure cell and it contains their replacement queen. I’m not sure why they are replacing her because from my perspective, it looked like she was doing a good job, but the bees know best.
A long time ago, I was told if I see supersedure cells to let them be(e). For some reason last year., I did not follow that advice and a hive and I went back-and-forth for weeks— they would build cells, I would knock them down. Until finally, I relented. It’s not my way or the hive way— it’s virtually always the hive way. 🐝❤️

Meet my newest colony. They actually don’t have a name yet, so suggestions are welcome! Last Monday I got a phone call from a homeowner who had bees flying around a crack in their basement. I stopped out after work and it did look like there were scout bees scoping out the basement. I offered to bring out a bait hive to see if that might entice them away from the basement. I made a bait hive using old frames with grody, dark beeswax and a spritz of lemongrass oil. The thought is to lure a swarm into this baited hive. And it worked! The ladies chose the box and not the basement. I moved them to my property Sunday night in the rain. Do you see the queen dart across the frame in the second video? I included a screenshot as the last image, so you can get a better glimpse. Welcome home, ladies!

You can purchase honey anytime during daylight at the roadside stand. It is cash or Venmo. If you want to pay by card or have a specific order just message me and we will work out the details. I try to keep it stocked with a decent variety but if you have your heart set on a specific size or harvest, message me ahead of time and I can make sure it’s set aside for you.

A few of my hives are visible from the stand; we are a working farm. Me and the bees. Thank you for buying directly from a beekeeper 🐝❤️

🌼🐝 Summer is almost here, and it’s the perfect time to become a Bee Ambassador! 🌿☀️

You don’t need a huge garden to help pollinators thrive. A few simple choices — planting native flowers, avoiding harmful pesticides, leaving a little clover in the lawn, or adding fresh water for bees and butterflies — can make a real difference right here in Kenmore. 🦋

Pollinators are responsible for roughly one in three bites of food we eat, and they need our help now more than ever. Every flower planted and every chemical avoided helps create a healthier environment for bees, butterflies, pets, kids, and our community as a whole. 💛

🌸 Ways to help this summer:
• Plant pollinator-friendly flowers
• Grow more garden and less lawn
• Skip harmful lawn chemicals
• Provide fresh water for pollinators
• Support native plants and trees

Guess what’s back in stock? Strawberry creamed honey. 🍓🍓🍓It’s raw wildflower honey mixed slowly over a couple weeks to develop a creamy texture and the blended with organic dehydrated strawberries.

it’s honestly one of my favorites. I mix it into plain Greek yogurt, oatmeal, and in green tea. 🍓🍵

I had a lovely time talking about bees to the sisters and students at Stella Niagara today! There were so many great questions— from what is a pollinator? Why do bees fly so far in search of food? Where does Royal jelly come from? Do bees ever get lost? Do bees know they will die if they sting you? What happens if the queen bee dies?
It was an enjoyable afternoon; thank you for having me, Stella Niagara! 🐝❤️

It’s World Bee Day, so I can make multiple posts. 😊
Do you see Queen Phebe? Sometimes you can spot a queen just by how the bees around her react. See how they are facing her?
