🌱The Garden Plant Sale Catalog is available! You can plan your summer garden with lots of strong, healthy plants raised right here on the farm from seed. We have some unique varieties and lots of our farm-friend favorites. This year, the catalog theme focuses on companion planting. I was inspired by a deep garden planning conversation I had with my cousin's wife while they were visiting a few weeks ago. They helped out in the greenhouse, and we daydreamed about our summer gardens, hers in California and ours in Western New York. The wonderful visit with family, and the conversation about how plants naturally help each other in different ways, made me realize we all could all use a lot more companionship right now. I hope the companion planting features inspire you, too.
I redesigned the whole catalog and I'm so dang proud of how it turned out. These pages are a little teaser. For the record, I designed each page myself and did not use AI. Also, for the record, I couldn't figure how to use Canva's AI function and figured I could do it better myself πŸ˜… Rich helped a lot, mostly by staying clear, doing all the chores and meal prep while I took on this project, and providing encouragement πŸ’š
You can find the download in last week's email newsletter and on our website - mccollumorchards.com/garden-plant-sale/
We hope to see you in a couple weeks for the kick off of the Garden Plant Sale!

Farm friends, Save the Dates! Today's warmth and sunshine inspired us to awake from a long winter's nap and begin the 2026 season in earnest. There is nothing we enjoy more than seeing familiar faces and meeting new folks here on the farm - perusing the plant sale, picking bouquets, sharing oven-baked pizza, and gathering around the long table for summer dinner. I want to share with you our 2026 farm season plan. Of course, Mother Nature makes the rules, so if it is warm in mid-May, we'll open the Garden Plant Sale early. This year we celebrate 199 years of the farm. Each season seems like a fresh start. Thank you for being a part of it and we can't wait to see you on the farm soon!

This year marks 199 years of our family farm in Lockport. In 1827, when the 'American Experiment' itself was barely 50 years old, Rich’s ancestors arrived here and built a new life: a barn, a house, a farm, and a community.

Through nearly two centuries of changing seasons and hard winters, this farm has endured because of community.

Now, we are in the heart of winter, exactly midway between Solstice and Equinox. The land feels suspended in time. These towering black walnut trees planted a century ago, and frozen ice pond from a bygone era are so striking and beautiful. They remind me of a scene right out of The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, when Jadis had locked Narnia in the Hundred Year Winter. The world frozen, and cruelty endless.

And yet, hope is there when I look.
Birdsong in the morning.
Sunshine in the late afternoon.
Ice melting in the bright light of day.
Neighbors and communities organizing around love, care for one another, and a more just future.

Fittingly, we’ve just ordered seeds for our 2026 May Garden Plant Sale and the Summer Flower U-Pick 🌸 In a few weeks, we’ll begin to plant the first seeds with purpose and gratitude, trying our very best to offer all our farm community, neighbors, friends, and family much abundance, nourishment and hope for the seasons ahead. 🌱
