March 9. The snow has melted and I’m checking out my lavender survivors! So far so good. I’ll have a better idea of lavender health in a month. We have about 3,000 lavender plants in this field and due to harsh winters & wind, I usually see about 50 dead plants. Last winter was especially bad - we had pull closer to 300 plants. But so far I’m pleased with what I see so fingers crossed for a good harvest this July!!!! 🤞
And yes, I should cover these lavender rows to ensure they survivor the winter but it’s challenging here in Cambria. We’re so close to the lake that the wind rips off our plant covers so it hasn’t been a successful endeavor in the past. And so, we just leave these ladies to fend for themselves and hope for the best!
