A few days ago we started seeds for ‘Diva’ and ‘Tasty Jade’ cucumbers, which will eventually be transplanted into the greenhouse. We chose these varieties for greenhouse production because they are parthenocarpic, meaning they can set fruit without pollination. That’s a big advantage in a greenhouse, where bees and other pollinators may not have easy access to the plants and means we can still get cucumbers even when pollinators aren't doing the work! 🐝🥒
We’re also doing a little integrated pest management as we go! We’ve put up some scare tape to discourage birds from visiting the seedlings and added a yellow sticky trap to monitor for insects. 🐦🪰🔍🌱
