Requirements: We are looking for someone with herd management experience in checking and caring for cattle from a feed truck. We will not hire someone with little experience or looking to learn; you must be able to spot a sick or lame cow/calf and properly care for cattle, no exceptions (caring for cattle is basically the whole job) so if you’re not qualified, please don’t apply. We try to tag calves at birth and keep records when a cow has calved. We keep salt and mineral out to all herds at all times and require this to be followed. Looking for someone who is easy to work with and enjoyable to be around. Majority of the time you’ll be in a feed truck checking cows; we expect our employees to take care of their feed tuck and be responsible for letting us know when maintenance or mechanic work needs scheduled (and keeping your feed truck clean). Someone who will respect our equipment and property and treat it as their own. We do not allow smoking.
Job is mainly throughout the week but will require some work on weekends; during the winter-feeding season you’ll feed every other weekend, or one day each weekend depending on schedule. Haying season may also include weekends.
Other job requirements (but not limited to): helping process cattle, possibly gathering cattle if comfortable horseback, brush hogging, fence work,, haying, setting up wheel corral.
We are a diversified ranch that also run goats and sheep. We aren’t specifically hiring for someone to take care of them or work with them full-time, but they do run in pastures with or behind cattle so if you can’t stand to be around goats and sheep then this might not be a good fit, you may be asked to help with them periodically.
Has to be honest, hard-working, and have a good attitude. We’re NOT looking for someone who wastes time talking or holding others up from their job, but someone who can keep themselves busy when working alone or with others. We will check references and require 3 or more references from previous or current jobs.
Pay will be based on your experience and we can probably help find a local house to rent for the right candidate.
