A little tour of some potted hostas! 🌱 From narrow leaves to splashes of variegation, there's plenty of variety even in a small collection. Which one would you take home?

I’m glad I get to work around awesome flowers like Arlette at Bentley Gardens. Look at those ruffled edges!

FRIEND OR FOE? It depends! 🌿

This praying mantis stopped by the screen at Gracious Goodness Homestead.

Look for a triangular head, a long body, and folded front legs designed to grab prey. Mantises are ambush hunters: they wait quietly, then strike when an insect comes within reach.

They eat insects that gardeners may consider pests, but they also catch bees, butterflies, and other beneficial insects. They don't sort their meals into friend and foe!

Garden tip: Identify the species before buying or releasing mantis egg cases. Native and introduced mantises occur in our region, and adding mantises isn't a targeted solution to a pest problem. This photo doesn't give me enough detail to confidently name the species.

Allison’s hard at work mulching the pots and getting them ready for winter. She’s working so hard, even the cartoon version had to clock in. 🍂🪴😄
