Our tasting room - the Silver Thread Winegarden at 9564-NY414 - is about a mile from our lakeside vineyard. With one of the oldest grape-growing sites on Seneca Lake, our rocky hillside vineyard produces unique wines of exceptional purity. Through careful stewardship of the land and small-batch winemaking, we capture the story of each vintage and preserve it for future generations. Immerse yourself in our special site to taste the history, authenticity and destiny of the Finger Lakes. Silver Thread is an 8-acre, sustainably farmed vineyard that was established in 1982 on the east side of Seneca Lake and the estate winery has been in operation since 1991. The winery produces small quantities of premium vinifera wines, including Riesling, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Gewurztraminer and Cabernet Franc. The winery is rated among the top artisanal wineries in the Finger Lakes by Huffington Post and its wines are highly rated by Wine Spectator and Wine Enthusiast.

When your tasting menu is mostly Riesling, fitting a Gewurztraminer in to the line-up can be challenging. White w**es are often tasted in order from driest to sweetest, but sometimes you need to get a little more creative! It's times like this that we get together as a staff and try the w**es in a few different orders. Should the Gewurz go before all the Rieslings? In the middle as a break from the more acidic w**es? This time around, we chose to list it after the Semi-dry Riesling. Though it's definitely not sweeter than our Semi-dry, it's much lower in acid and has a distinct texture. We feel like it's a nice way to end a tasting of white w**es, as well as a fun step if you're going from Rieslings to red blends.

Savor three of our low-intervention w**es - two Rieslings and our Blackbird Red (Cab Franc blend) - alongside a flavorful plate that includes pumpkinseed oil spread with baguette, Viennese cabbage slaw, and bauernwurst with curry ketchup. We love a delicious w**e and food pairing, and include a suggested recipe with every club newsletter. Heather, one of our members, recently sent us this:

"Fabulous recipe which balances savory with a touch of sweet using fresh peaches. I paired this easy week night dinner with a cold bottle of Silver Thread 2025 Good Earth Riesling. I substituted chicken breast for chicken thighs which stayed super juicy in the oven!"
