It's the first of the month and you know what that means!
Showcasing the Employee of the Month. That's right, boys and girls...EMPLOYEE OF THE MONTH! ๐
I have a very special chicken to tell you about this month. This specific girl was one of the ladies from my first group of chicks. 3 1/2 years ago. I have learned so much since then and made some mistakes along the way and let me tell you, this loudmouth always lets me know when she is not happy!
Meet Becky! Now, I have a story about this little lady and how she got her name. Years ago I worked at the Marriott Regency hotel in Omaha and I worked with a phenomenal woman named....you guessed it, Becky! Becky was the heart of the sales office and kept the wheels on the bus for the entire team. I was always needing a little help and would call out for Becky from my office to see if she could help me with some project or another. I would call out Becky's name and was met with silence. Anyone who knows me knows that I am not known for being timid and quiet but for some reason Becky never seemed to hear me...๐ค hmmm. Selective hearing, maybe??? It absolutely could not be that I annoyed her. Inconceivable!
Well, I was not deterred by Becky's lack of response, and I decided "I WILL get her attention if it kills me. So, one fateful day I decided to say her name like how a chicken would sound. "Beck Beck Beck BECKEEEE!" There was no way that Becky would not hear that! At first, my bellowing was met with an exasperated sigh and a "What do you want?" I knew I had her and from that point on, whenever I needed to get Becky's attention, that is how I would call her name. Sometimes I would even get a giggle out of Becky and secretly I think she loved it, that was until it got on in the office and several colleagues started doing the same thing to her. ๐๐๐คฃ You're welcome Becky!
I would talk often about my dream to move out to the country and get some chickens, and I made a promise to Becky that once that dream came true, I would name a chicken after her and here we are!
Becky's namesake is the Boss Lady! She is my most vocal bird and always there to give me what for. Just like the OG Becky back in the day at the Marriott!
Becky (the chicken) is always first in line for snacks and struts around the coop like her s #*t don't stink. She is not very cuddly but shows her love for me by pecking at my legs if I am not feeding her quick enough. So sweet!
Every night the ladies go in the coop and jump up on their roosting bar sitting side by side to go to sleep. I come in the coop to pat each of them on the head, tell them night night and that I love them and that is how I do a head count. Well, Becky "Miss Thang" has given me several heart attacks when I am doing the nightly head count and she is not to be found. Becky likes to crawl up in the rafters of the coop for some alone time and as I panic until I find her all the thoughts go through my head that somehow, she got out of the run and a critter ate her then I see her looking down at me with I swear, a little smirk on her beak. She is something else! But no matter how much Becky can be a bit much at times I love her dearly, just like the original Beck Beck Beck Beckeeeee!!!!
