Sugafoot Farms our hummingbird feeders are cleaned, disinfected and open for feeding. We had the pleasure of having both an adult and juvenile hummingbird visit this week.

As the weather heats up it's critical to keep hummingbird feeders clean to avoid making the birds sick. Daytime temperatures are forecasted in the 80's and 90's for the next several days in our region so hummingbird feeders need to be cleaned every 1 - 2 DAYS to avoid bacterial and fungal build up in the feeder. Fungal infections can cause the birds tongue to swell and prevent them from feeding.

If your summer schedule is too busy to clean your hummingbird feeders so often no problem! Simply take them down until things cool down. Planting nectar producing plants in your garden or in pots will provide clean, fresh nectar. Avoiding insecticides will help ensure a supply of insects for the hummers - over half of their diet is made up of insects!
