We made up our mating Nucs awhile ago and once you lay out those empty frames or during Hive inspections it leaves colonies disoriented and merely opening colonies or harvesting honey can start a robbing event. It is the odor of honey that is the attraction. Since there is little control to be had it will look scary!
I used to be scared but now I love sitting, watching or Recording their flight which is a zig-zag, bouncing type pattern.
