Nature has a beautiful relationship with the sun. Plants turn toward it, drawing in the energy they need to grow. Animals, like cattle, come out to graze under the warmth of the sun, while even pets like cats and dogs sunbathe. It’s a natural process that sustains life across the planet. But as humans, we've been conditioned to fear the very thing that nurtures us.

The truth is, sunlight is vital to our well-being. It not only boosts our mood but also enhances our immune system, helps our bodies produce vitamin D, and promotes overall health. It’s crucial to rethink our relationship with the sun and stop viewing it as something dangerous.

In Ayurveda, sunlight is considered a powerful healing force. Embracing natural sun exposure in a mindful, balanced way is essential for maintaining health and vitality. 🌞🌱

Knowing the Egg Color by Looking at a Hen’s Earlobes
Did you know that a hen’s earlobe can reveal the color of the eggs she will lay?
This curious but reliable detail is often overlooked by beginners in poultry keeping.
Hens with red earlobes usually lay brown eggs.
Hens with white earlobes are more likely to lay white eggs.
While there are exceptions depending on the breed, this simple observation is a useful guide for anyone raising chickens or curious about life on the farm.
It’s a fascinating reminder of how nature leaves small but telling clues in the animals around us.

Firefighters will continue to seek out and extinguish hot spots within the perimeter of the Lake Fire today. Most of the heat has been located in islands of unburned vegetation. Fire crews have been busy extinguishing these hot spots with support from helicopters. Fire behavior within these islands may increase later this week as temperatures rise and vegetation dries out.

Firefighters have begun the task back hauling equipment used to protect structures in the area away from the immediate perimeter of the burn. Besides removing hose lines and pump systems around structures, the fire resistant wrap used to protect the historic Manzana Schoolhouse and Dabney Cabin will be removed.

Contingency lines were constructed ahead of the fire as a precautionary measure in the event the fire escaped primary control lines. Firefighters are constructing water bars and taking other measures along these lines to reduce the potential of erosion during the winter rains.

Forecast for Monday: Persistent warmer and drier conditions continue with highs in the mid-90s to near 100 degrees mid-week. An excessive heat warning is in effect until 10 p.m. Thursday.

Donations: We appreciate the outpouring of support from the community. We ask that donations or volunteer efforts be directed to local food banks to assist the community. Lake Fire Incident Command posts cannot accept donations.
