I'm embarking on an exciting journey to craft my own signature dry pantry mixes, bursting with wholesome goodness, for our family's favorite staples like ranch, taco seasoning, cream of soups, Alfredo sauce, cookies, cakes & muffins, baking mixes, and more. I'll also be creating convenient ready-to-cook dry meal kits, simply add your preferred protein and voilà! Before I dive in, I'll conduct some research and development to perfect my recipes, aiming for cost-effective solutions that highlight natural ingredients over commercial chemicals. My ultimate goal is to share these delightful dry mixes with my customers at a price that's just as appealing as the benefits they bring.

Happy Easter Eve folks!
I haven’t been outside working the past couple of days, but I did get a pic of the 1st bloom on my Iris yesterday. It’s raining today with thunderstorms rolling through. I know we need the rain, but it sure puts a damper on working outside.
Echo and Lulu are doing great!
Oh! I have some ideas on new products that I may be offering in the near future. Keep your eyes 👀 peeled for more details!!! I’m taking tomorrow off for the holiday, see y’all Monday. 👋🏻

Ever wonder if you could do this, too? 👩‍🌾✨

After yesterday’s post about the meat birds, I got to thinking... there is so much more to this homesteading life than just the numbers. It’s about the skills, the recipes, and the peace of mind knowing exactly what’s on your table.

I’m working on something special behind the scenes—a place where we can get together, share what works, and learn the ropes of food preservation and farm life without the guesswork.

Coming soon. Stay tuned! 🤫

Broilers, Fryers, Cornish Cross... whatever you call them, we just call them dinner! 🐓

In two weeks, I’m picking up 25 day-old chicks from a local hatchery. Eight weeks later, they’ll head to a USDA-inspected processor. Is it cheaper than the grocery store? Probably not. Is it better for us? Absolutely.

The Breakdown:

Chicks: $43

Feed: $145

Processing: $154

Total Cost: $342 ($13.68 per bird)

At Walmart, a whole chicken averages $8.50–$10.00. While I’m not "saving" money upfront, I am investing in flavor, texture, and health. No added brines or water weight—just 100+ lbs of homegrown meat to feed my family for the year.

Good Monday ☀️ morning folks☕️!
Pigy says Hi too.
Yesterday was somewhat productive, hubby helped me with getting the rest of the t-posts in and the bracing done. Finally decided where to put my gate, originally I was going to put it at the back, since it would be closer to the back door of the house, then decided I really needed it at the front closer to the driveway since that’s where the feed will come in from and where the feed barrels will be located. Then realized that there was an old tree stump right where I wanted a post to go 🤦‍♀️… hubby to the rescue 😊. He asked me, “Why not come off this corner post?” I told him that I didn’t know I could and he said it would be fine, it doesn’t have to be perfect 😂.
Today I plan to get the fence wire up and a temp gate until hubby does a little bit of welding for the gate hinges on one of the t-posts. Then I’ll work on getting the electric fence wire up n the outside of the fence.
Now folks, normally we wouldn’t go through the trouble of putting up a fenced in area for the chickens and turkeys. In the past we only had an 2-wire electric fence going around the coops, giving the chickens and turkeys complete free range of the property. But a few years ago, we had new folks move in to the area and disrupted the normal path of the coyotes, causing them to invade our property, killing off my entire chicken flock when my electric fence went out.
And now there’s neighbors who have free range dogs that are on the aggressive side, and the neighbor has been warned.
I’m sad that my poultry flocks won’t be able to be as free range as I would like, but I am thrilled to be able to create a safe space for them.

Who’s ready for us to get back to raising chickens 🐓 and turkeys 🦃 and possibly pigs 🐖? We had to take some time off from livestock farming, but we are getting ready to start back up again. We’re also thinking of implementing a barter system to trade for fresh beef, produce and dairy.
🗓️ So here is a tentative timeline of what might coming!
Starting NOW we will be taking orders for layer chicks and broiler chicks. (Most breeds available)
In April, turkey poults will be available to order. (Most breeds available) Ready to process & fresh whole turkey should be available before thanksgiving (Heritage Breed & possibly Meat breed)
Sometime in May there should be fresh whole chicken (from my own broiler flock) available and hopefully by August we should have eggs available for purchase.
We’re hoping to add pigs to our livestock program and have piglets and fresh pork available, TBD. We have also been bouncing around the idea of rabbits, but unsure of how the market is with this at the moment.
