Thank you God for all of our blessings and safe travels 🙏 🙌
After a long, busy week at work, we made a last-minute call to head to Gilmer and cook with our outlaw BBQ family at Risk It for the Brisket—and man, we’re glad we did. Gilmer is always a good time, and being just an hour and a half from home made it even better since some of our family got to come hang out. Bonus points for getting to enjoy some good music from Roger Creager 🎶

Overall, we had a pretty smooth cook… minus one pit deciding to act brand new and not run right on us for the first time ever 🤬🤷🏼‍♀️🤪

My Weber ran smooth and hot all day with the best burning B&B Charcoal —it paid off with an 8th place chicken call 🙌
Our rib pit, on the other hand… had a mind of its own, but we still pulled off 12th place ribs— a little on the tight side, but hey, we’ll take that “kiss your sister” money 💵
And brisket… yeah, we’re just gonna leave that one alone 🤦🏼‍♀️ I’ve seen more marbling in a sirloin steak than that “prime” brisket, but I’ll give it this—it had great flavor 🤷🏼‍♀️

Huge congratulations to AJ George on Grand Champion and locking in #6 for the Jack—that last one is the toughest! 😵
Congrats to Bud Brown on Reserve Grand Champion, and to everyone else who got to make that walk 💪

Thank God for all of our blessings and safe travels 🙏
We loaded up and headed to Belton, Texas this weekend to cook at the Central Texas BBQ Roundup sanctionedby IBCA, as alway we had a great time cooking, laughing, and making memories with friends and family in a parking lot ❤️🔥

We felt really good about our cook… and a few judges agreed (just not all of them apparently 😅). The scoring was a little all over the place, but we’re still proud of how we showed up!
We won 💪🥳
🏆 18th Chicken
🏆 13th Ribs
🏆 7th Brisket
🏆 5th Overall out of 104 teams
The promoter didn't payout what he said he was going to for 100 teams but luckily we brought home a little money.

Now let’s talk jackpots… because whew. We still have no clue where we placed due to a system glitch that was apparently an issue from the start. Not IBCA'S fault. Teams spend a lot of time, money, and effort on these categories—from entry fees to building those boxes—and for it to still not be resolved by awards is frustrating, to say the least. We just hope it gets addressed and we get our money back. Also… maybe let’s not have the same judges score all three jackpot categories next time.

On a MUCH happier note—BIG shoutout to my girl Michelle Martinez for winning Grand Champion and punching her ticket to Vegas for a shot at a MILLION dollars at the BBQ World Cup!!! 💰🔥
It’s not always easy making a name for ourselves in a male-dominated sport, so watching my girl friends WIN like that fires me up every single time 💪 So proud of you and Adam Martinez

This past weekend we were invited by Shane and Lacy LeClair and Facility Solutions Group to cook at the Austin Rodeo BBQ Cook-Off… and let’s just say Mother Nature decided she wanted to compete too. 🌧️😂

Even with the storms rolling through Saturday, we had a really solid cook and turn-ins.

Out of 252 teams we managed:
🏆 7th Place Chicken 💪
🏆 66th Place Ribs🤬
🏆 61st Place Brisket😭
🏆 18th Overall💰

Jackpot categories:
🔥 30th Place Open – Anna (out of 113 teams)
🔥 18th Place Beans – Scotty (out of 114 teams)

Not too bad for cooking BBQ while dodging rain clouds and probably adding a little “Texas rainwater seasoning” to the mix. 😆

At the end of the day, the best part of this crazy BBQ life is hanging out in a parking lot with our BBQ family… telling stories, laughing way too much, and making memories that last longer than the smoke in the air.
