It was a cool and somewhat rainy Memorial Day weekend on the Farm, but that didn’t keep us from splitting the Bees! All 4 hives made it through the winter & if things go good, we’ll have 8. Fingers crossed!

The Bees gave us more Honey than I had thought this year.
Some a Golden Color, & some as Dark as old motor oil.
But why?
On the banks of the Delaware River & its tributaries grows the Invasive Knotweed, or Japanese Knotweed. When it goes into bloom, at the end of the Summer, bees bring the pollin/nectar back to the hive. As soon as this happens, the honey turns from a Golden Color to a Dark Molassis Color. Still sweet honey, but more of a Caramel flavor.
Good, just a little different.
One of the hives was still of a golden color…so perhaps those bees didn’t forage so far!
