Hana Makgeolli is a home brewed Korean American rice alcohol that celebrates heritage and the labor of love. Unlike the sweet and light characteristics of commercial makgeolli, Hana brews check you back into the raw reality of what makgeolli should and continue to be. The flavor profile consists of deep grain flavors and a strong, lasting punch of alcohol. Hana is my Korean name. Hana Makgeolli is a reflection of my understanding and appreciation of a drink that scented my childhood, accented family dinner tables, and shaped my tongue.

Chicago meets Brooklyn 🍸🍶

Madang Drinkery is taking over the brewery with cocktails featuring Hana Makgeolli and flavors inspired by cold kimchi noodles, banana uyu, ssanghwacha, and red bean walnut cake.

Madang will provide the cocktails, and Hana will have the regular anju menu. Come hungry, stay for a cocktail or two, and spend Sunday with us! 🍜🍌✨

Under the harvest moon 🌕

Last week, we had the honor of pouring Hana Makgeolli Honey at the People’s House for Mayor Mamdani’s first Mid Autumn Festival celebration.

A beautiful evening of gathering, gratitude, and tradition shared across New York’s many AAPI communities. It felt especially meaningful to pour our sool for a holiday that holds so much meaning for many ❤️

Hana Makgeolli Honey is now H MART Manhattan ❤️

We started this brewery to put real makgeolli in front of the people who grew up with it, and in front of everyone who hasn’t tried it yet. H Mart is where both of those people meet. This one means a lot 🥹

Available now at the three Manhattan locations: 32nd St, 3rd Ave, and Amsterdam Ave.

Yunjumo NYC loves you ❤️🗽

Chef Nara Yun of 술빚는 윤주모 Yun Nara and star of Culinary Wars brought Jumo’s Hansang from Seoul to take31 for a very special collaboration.

From the homey 황태해장국 to house-made 막창 순대 and savory 치즈 감자전, the menu was a beautiful reminder that some of the best traditional Korean cooking is found in simplicity, seasonality, and deeply familiar flavors 🤲

A perfect table for Hana Makgeolli’s Yakju 14 and Kingkangju, it was an honor to share our sool alongside Chef Nara’s cooking.

Thank you Chef Nara, a brewer after our own heart, Take 31, and everyone who joined us around the table. 건배! 🍶🌾

Chef Kang brings his thoughtful approach to Korean cuisine to Hana Makgeolli with a seasonal menu rooted in Korean flavors, memory, and tradition, paired alongside our traditional Korean sool.
Most recently, Chef Kang was the owner-chef of ODRE in New York’s East Village, where his cooking celebrated seasonal ingredients and stories close to home.
