Such a beautiful and productive day. This is our Japanese Paper Pot transplanter. We can start vegetables a month before they go into the ground which gives us a head start. We lose less crops too because they are a bit older when they are planted. Best of all, it saves so much time!!! In just a few hours we transplanted this Tiny Tim lettuce, 300
feet of Kohlrabi, 200 feet of Peppermint Swiss chard, 50 feet of Chinese cabbage, 100 feet of Celtuce, 200 feet of Bloomsdale Spinach, and tomorrow we will add 100 feet of Calendula, as well as 400 feet of Kailaan Broccoli. It’s as if we planted it March 26th! Which we did…just at home in the greenhouse. If you have an in-the-ground-garden, then I heartily recommend this system. Let me know if you have any questions.

Read below to hear how good purslane is for you. Who knew this w**d was so good at healing us
“In Chinese folklore, purslane is known as a “vegetable for long life.”

Because it’s a succulent (a plant that can retain water), purslane thrives in climates that can’t sustain a lot of other plants. Its sturdy nature makes it a great option for very dry, hot regions or for gardeners who don’t trust themselves to water regularly. This easily overlooked plant also provides a surprising number of health benefits. But you’ll probably have to grow it yourself if you want to reap its nutritional rewards.” You might not guess from looking at its tiny yellow flowers or rubbery green leaves, but purslane is listed by the World Health Organization as one of the most used medicinal plants in the world. That’s because this low-growing plant is:
Loaded with antioxidants

Free radicals are unstable molecules in your body that cause cell damage. Antioxidants are special compounds found in plants and plant-based foods that fight against them. Purslane contains plenty of antioxidants, such as:

Vitamin A: It protects your eyes as well as improves your immune system. It’s also critical to the health of your organs because it supports healthy cell division.
Beta-carotene: It turns into vitamin A in your body. Its ability to reduce the number of free radicals in your body can help reduce your risk of cancer.
Vitamin C: It keeps your collagen and blood vessels in good shape, and helps heal injuries.
Rst in the first comment vessels in good shape, and helps heal injuries.
Glutathione: It has anti-cancer properties. Purslane leaves contain more Glutathione than spinach.
Melatonin: It not only helps improve your sleep but also reduces inflammation, helps manage your immune system, and is good for your blood pressure.
Betalain: Although more studies need to be done, the natural substance that gives purslane stems their reddish color appears to have antiviral, antibacterial, and antifungal qualities.

Testing irrigation… we hate to buy new line because it’s so expensive so we try to protect the line that we have. Now we can finish getting the beds ready and get all the little veg that have been growing in the paper pots, into the ground. If you ever want to come and hang out or volunteer, let us know! We’d love your company.

I studied at the Royal College of Art in London and I used to be a painter. Now I make vegetables in an outdoor studio. The pigment is so much better! 🥹🤯😍

Blooming Prairie purple beans from Uprising Organics are some of the sweetest bush beans out there. They are a bit flat so they can give a slightly broad bean experience. I kind of fell in love with them this year because even though the elk ate off all their tops, including the leaves, the flowers bloomed anyway and grew shedloads of these on every plant. I’d put them on your list for next year. Here is the description from Uprising: ‘We generally regard purple beans as we do purple bell peppers or purple kale, that is, quite nice to look at, but nothing that tastes remotely as good as it looks (and often even that phrasing is too polite). Enter Blooming Prairie, passed along to us from Dan Jason of Salt Spring Seeds in BC. Named after a town in Minnesota, Blooming Prairie hangs heavy with glossy purple, slender, straight, and crisp pods. The flavor is full and decidedly old-school “beany” in the best way, the texture crisp and refreshing. This one may change your opinion about purple beans; it did ours. Sometimes these like to think they are pole beans! IF you give them the support, they may vine up a couple of feet. Don’t give them any ideas! As a side note, the dry beans are simply gorgeous!’

What is Regenerative Agriculture? I could fill a book with all the points and principles. One of the main values that overlaps with permaculture is the effort put into planting perennials. Our dear friend, has shared the bounty of this beautiful pear tree that some person planted long ago. Every year, along with our special Bartlett Pear tree at home we are blessed by the choice to that someone made long ago. We love planting fruit trees for this very reason. They give and give and give long after we leave our homes are farms. It is a blessing for people who will pick from its branches in the future. ✨QOTD What fruit tree would you love to have the most?!
