The morning started off peaceful and dreamy… mist hanging low, honeysuckle smelling heavenly, hummingbirds dancing through the orchard… ☀️🌿

Then Dolly the donkey clocked in and immediately filed a complaint about breakfast being late. 🐴😂

It’s almost mid-May already… and honestly… who approved this timeline? 😅🌸
Meanwhile, out at YA YA Farm and Orchard…
☁️ The cotton trees are out here throwing cotton around like it’s already June…
🌸 And the peonies decided today was their moment to make an entrance 👀
Both of these usually wait until June.
But apparently 2026 has its own agenda 🤨✨
Not saying the universe is acting suspicious… but the flowers are definitely talking. 🌎💭

✨🌱 Once upon a time, a magical garden began to awaken at YA YA Farm & Orchard… 🌸🧚‍♀️
My favorite season has arrived — when all the little plant starts I’ve been lovingly tending finally move into their summer homes beneath the Colorado sky. 💚
Growing up in Colorado, it was practically written in stone: never plant before Memorial Day. Somewhere along the way, Mother’s Day seems to have become the new green light. 🌞🌷 And honestly… after a winter that felt suspiciously like gardening weather, I’ve been counting the days to get my hands back in the dirt.
The dahlias are tucked into the garden beds now, making room for 50 more bulbs waiting patiently in their starter pots. 🌼✨ Every season feels a little like magic — tiny beginnings turning into overflowing blooms and future harvests.
So now I’m curious… when do you start planting? Are you digging in this weekend too? 🌿👩‍🌾🌈

Winter in May… really?! ❄️🌸 Where were YOU when the trees were ready for you?
Mother Nature rolled in with a heavy, wet surprise and honestly… wow. Equal parts chaos and magic. So much gratitude wrapped up in all this wildness. The orchard has been through it this year—and yet here they are, still standing, still showing off their resilience like absolute legends.
Right now the trees are bowed down, branches stretched, fruit hanging on for dear life. And here I am with the ultimate farmer dilemma: to broom or not to broom? 🤔
If I broom… I knock off fruit.
If I don’t… maybe branches go.
Also, is there such a thing as a gentle broom? Asking for a friend.
But maybe this is the lesson. The trees are out here reminding me of something simple and powerful—what it means to endure.
As Bob Marley said:
“You never know how strong you are until being strong is your only choice.”
These trees? Yeah… they know.

Nothing like a May snowstorm—the heavy, wet kind. It almost feels like the earth’s nervous system can finally exhale in relief… such deep gratitude for this much-needed heavenly moisture.
It doesn’t matter what kind of trees you have in a storm like this—branches will be breaking - and I’ll be out there at first light brooming the orchard off.
But there’s a quiet blessing in it too: this blanket of snow is insulating the fruit from the cold, holding just enough warmth to protect what’s still becoming….the fall harvest!
Farming is never simple, but it is always humbling. Keep the faith!

Heard a rumor that it might snow… well praying for rain at the minimum … so much getting done this morning in anticipation of weather!

It’s been quite the buzz around here the past few weeks 🐝
Our amazing beekeeper Ruth brought in some nucs—little starter colonies split from her own thriving hives—and we’ve been on queen watch ever since. She was confident each hive had a queen… but let me tell you, the drama started when it looked like swarming behavior was kicking off 😅
Ruth came out to check (because every good farm needs a calm, experienced “bee whisperer” 👑), and guess what? Everything was perfectly fine. Both queens were hard at work laying eggs, and the hives were absolutely booming with activity on the blooms 🌸
So what was all the excitement about?
Turns out… it was basically a royal send-off party 🎉🐝
The new queens needed to go on their mating flights, and the hive was celebrating before she took off. She’ll fly up to a couple miles, be gone just 10–15 minutes (talk about a quick date night 😏), and meet as many drones as she can. Then it’s back home for another celebration and straight into business mode—because this queen has a kingdom to run!
Honestly, bees are just the coolest. The teamwork, the rhythm, the tiny bit of chaos—it’s all part of something amazing. Feeling so grateful that both new hives are thriving 💛
And yes… I’m officially a little obsessed now. Call it my new “buzziness” 🐝😉
