Henry Stanley of "Dr. Livingstone, I presume" fame was a Confederate soldier in the Battle of Shiloh during the American Civil War.

When Stanley and Livingstone met in Central Africa in 1871 there is some doubt that the famous phase was used. Neither Stanley or Livingstone's accounts of the meeting mentions the
phase "Dr Livingstone, I presume.

Happy Friday Everybody! This is important stuff today. Have you ever heard of the Miss Farmer's School of Cookery? It was opened in Boston in 1902 by Fannie Merritt Farmer. Her major teaching idea was to teach people to follow recipes. She pioneered the use of standard level measurement in cooking.

You have to admit that Miss Farmer's School of Cookery sounds better than Fannie Farmer's Cooking School.

Well, that does it for another week of insightfulness (shrewdness shown by keen insight) from us. lol

Happy Friday Everybody! This just in from our "Wow! The important information just keeps coming" dept. In 1731, English sailor Robert Jenkins lost his ear when a Spanish ship plundered his ship. England fought the War of Jenkin's ear vs. Spain from 1739 to 1748 over this incident!

Happy Friday Everybody! This just in from our "Wow! I thought he only made the cotton gin...or some kind of gin." dept. Eli Whitney invented a process to make muskets by machine so the parts would be interchangeable...and this is what made him rich. He didn't make much money from his cotton gin invention.

Happy Friday Everybody!! This just in from our "Wow, now life as we know it can continue!" dept. MIT has developed a camera that takes one trillion, you read right, frames per second. It was developed to track light. One of its coolest uses so far has been to track light, one frame at a time, through a soft drink bottle. It really looks cool as the light reaches the top of the bottle.

Scientists think that it might have some practical uses as well. Me? I think just being able to capture light moving through a soft drink bottle is use enough, but what do you think sports fans?
