When on of our barn kittens was born, we named him Smeagle because he looked like Gollum. 😅 Awkward and tiny — but look at him now! It’s crazy how time and care can change things.

God has a way of shaping us, too. Don’t compare your “in progress” to someone else’s finished product — whether it’s your kids, your homestead, or your own life. 💛

Today was one of those days where everything felt a little too full — errands stacked on top of farm chores and family obligations waiting at home. With melted ice cream in the back of the car, I made a quick stop at Top Homestead General Store to pick up beef and milk.

As I hurried toward the door, a flash of color caught my eye — a butterfly fluttering over the zinnias by the entrance. I stopped for a moment, just to watch. It was such a simple thing, but it made me pause and breathe.

Life on the homestead doesn’t really slow down — there’s always something that needs tending, someone who needs you, or a task waiting just ahead. But moments like that remind me how important it is to pause and notice the beauty along the way.

Even in the middle of the busyness, God gives us gentle reminders to lift our eyes and appreciate where we are, and especially who we’re sharing it with. 💛

Pork Chop and Hammy are off to freezer camp 🐷❄️

Thanks for your service, ladies. Raised on pasture, these Idaho Pasture Pigs delivered the goods — healthy, happy lives and soon, fresh, flavorful pork.

We’re soaking up every last bit of this perfect East Texas weather before the summer heat really kicks in. The grass is green, the skies are clear, and the breeze is just right. Prince is making his rounds (as any self-respecting barn cat should), and everything feels calm and content.

These golden-hour evenings remind us why we love this land so much. There’s nothing quite like the peace of a quiet sunset over the pasture.

Operation Chicken Rescue commenced at the homestead today!

We knew a storm was coming, but we didn’t expect that much rain. The chicken tractor area flooded fast, and our poor chicks were soaked. With lightning flashing all around, we scrambled to bring them inside—wet, muddy, and determined.

Just another wild chapter in farm life!
