When s*xing young peafowl it can be difficult, but here are a few visuals and tips that can help.

🦚 The Indian blue wild type peafowl are born brown with black markings and develope their distinguishing features between 2-5 months of age.

Male Indian Blue Wild Type Peafowl
•Barring on their wings and back
•Pin stripe chest feathers
•Longer legs

Female Indian Blue Wild Type Peafowl
•No barring on wings or back
•Scalloped or U shaped chest feathers

🦚 The Black Shoulder peafowl are born white with a tan-pink hue on their wings and develop their distinguishing features between 2-5 months of age.

Male Black Shoulder Peafowl
•Feathers will develope color and start to form a triangle or diamond pattern on the back feathers

Female Black Shoulder Peafowl
•Feathers will start to get color on their back, but will remain diffused with no specific pattern.

🦚 The White and Silver pied peafowl are the most difficult to determine s*x due to lack of color and pattern variation. Therefore you have to rely on the shape of the tail feathers. This can sometimes take up to 9-12 months before it is distinguishable.

Male White Peafowl
•The tail will be shapped like a Maple leaf🍁
•There will be whispy or frilly feathers in the tail

Female White Peafowl
•Tail will be rounded
•No frilly or whispy feathers
•Generally shorter than males

Below are some pictures that can help put visuals with what I have stated above. If you have any questions please feel free to ask.

Some pictures are mine, others I have pulled from Google and Facebook for the education of this post.

Did you know that peafowl will shake their feathers during their mating dance to better attract a mate? It increases the experience of the show for the ladies by catching different shades of light or iridescense to change the color of the "oculi" or eye feathers.

This poor guy however only has 1 colored feather, but the ladies don't seem to mind as so far all of the eggs have been fertile.

Peacocks will yell out when they see a predator over head or near by, or just before they mate sometimes they will yell out as well, but did you know they also respond to loud noises. In this circumstance they were responding to a golf cart horn.🥰😆🦚
