Dave Phinney does it again with the 2025 Guero from Our Lady of Guadalupe. A Gamay blend named after a harvest nickname that stuck.

Phinney earned the name Guero on his first Napa nightshift crew, a term of endearment that followed him for decades. The 2025 Guero is a California red built on Gamay with Valdiguié and Pinot Noir, aged in stainless steel and meant to be served with a slight chill. It shows a neon fuchsia rim, then Bing cherry, raspberry, rose petal, and a little herbes de Provence. The palate is soft and juicy with blackberry, cranberry, violets, and a bright finish of rose hips and crisp black plum.��Holding its own amongst the infamous catalogue of Dave Phinney, this one is easy, chillable, and made for weeknights that deserve something more fun than ordinary. After more than fifty years of Cabernet, Silver Oak just poured its first white w**e.

This inaugural Sauvignon Blanc is the first new varietal from Silver Oak Cellars since 1972. It is a Napa and Sonoma blend of estate fruit, 91 percent Sauvignon Blanc with Sauvignon Gris and a touch of Sémillon. The glass opens with pineapple, lychee, citrus blossom, lemongrass, and honeydew. On the palate you get lemon zest and white peach, lifted by lively acidity and a clean mineral finish.

2024 Ancient Peaks Chardonnay

This bottle comes from Ancient Peaks’ estate Margarita Vineyard, the only vineyard in the Santa Margarita Ranch AVA and the southernmost site in Paso Robles. Mountain peaks funnel in coastal air, giving the w**e both freshness and depth. It opens with pear, citrus zest, tropical melon, and a hint of butterscotch. The palate is lush and lively with honeydew, peach, lime, and a thread of minerality, then finishes satiny with poached pear spice and vanilla.

Cool marine air, granitic soils, and just enough richness to make this Paso Chardonnay hard to put down. It is generous without feeling heavy, and built for the table.
