🍋💛
What started as something fun and something I genuinely enjoy has grown into a little business with a much deeper meaning behind the name.
There are two reasons I chose Lily’s Lemonade. First, because let’s be honest lemonade is good🍋 And second, because the name Lily comes from my daughter, who is the heart behind this business.
Backstory:
My daughter was born with HIE (Hypoxic-Ischemic Encephalopathy). HIE is a type of brain injury that can occur when a baby’s brain doesn’t receive enough oxygen and/or blood flow around the time of birth. It is not something a child is born with genetically—it is an injury that can tragically happen before, during, or shortly after birth. Unfortunately, there is currently no cure that can reverse the brain injury caused by HIE, although treatments such as therapeutic cooling can help reduce the risk of further injury in eligible newborns.
Lily was incredibly lucky. Despite her diagnosis, she has shown no noticeable symptoms or effects from her HIE. I know how incredibly fortunate we are, because unfortunately, many other children and families are not as lucky.
That is one of the biggest reasons her name is so important to me and to Lily’s Lemonade. 💛 My hope is that, while people are enjoying a cup of lemonade, we can also bring a little more awareness and education about HIE—a diagnosis that many people have never even heard of.
Maybe someday, if Lily’s Lemonade continues to grow, Lily herself will be able to take over the business or find her own way to help bring awareness to HIE. For now, though, she’s only 5 years old, and her biggest job is being a kid and focusing on kindergarten. 🥹💕
So when you support Lily’s Lemonade, you’re not just getting a cup of lemonade. You’re supporting a little girl who has already inspired something much bigger than I ever imagined.
One cup, one story, one little step toward more awareness. 🍋💛
