Star thistle has plagued our front pasture-- ya know, the pasture that gets watered around the clock. π΅βπ« We've tried all the things recommended, and for 5 years (no chemicals-- I won't do anything synthetic around my kids or animals), the devil's w**d continues to flourish. One day, I thought wood chips might be our solution. A long road, but guess what? After about 16 loads of chips, the thistle isn't blossoming in those areas!
The chips help the ground retain water and thistle does not like moisture (and I mean a lot of mositure). Eventually, the chips will break down and nurioush the devoid soil. Between manure, sun & water, these chips will produce a beautiful field for our livestock to graze.
You can farm organically; just sprinkle a little time and patience - completely worth it to me.
