🍅 Meet the Paul Robeson — an heirloom tomato variety with a fascinating story. It was named by Russian seed collector Marina Danilenko, a fan of Paul Robeson: champion of racial justice, star athlete, actor, and singer. He is perhaps best known for his Broadway role in Show Boat, singing “Ol’ Man River.”

This year, our Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) subscribers voted the Paul Robeson the tastiest tomato of the season! 🏆

🐔 Meet Dolly, named in honor of the great Dolly Parton! She's a Lisa Steele Cookies and Cream chicken, generously donated by our dear volunteer, Pam. Dolly is the sweetest chick — super friendly, cuddly, and perfect for our education programs. She and her two feathered friends just moved into the coop near the education garden, and they're settling in beautifully.

Happy Harvest Moon!

With the Harvest Moon on the rise this week, we are hard at work gathering sweet potatoes and winter squash, apples and pomegranates, and lots of other fruits and veggies we grow here at Hidden Villa.

We also want to take a moment to express our gratitude to you for helping plant the seeds that make this bounty possible.

Our regenerative farm not only supplies 11,000 pounds of fresh produce to the local community but also provides hands-on education to 10,000 school kids and 645 summer campers each year. And our 8 miles of trails and 1,600 acres of open space welcome more than 20,000 visitors annually.

All because of your support.

So, as we celebrate the fall season, thank you and Happy Harvest Moon!

🐴 1860: A Stagecoach Stop at the White House

Before Hidden Villa was Hidden Villa, this land was a rest stop on the road to the coast. George Washington Moody purchased the property in the mid-1800s and built Moody Road. The road ran from the Mountain View Railway Station toward the coast, right through the middle of our ranch over the mountains.

Travelers heading from San Jose to Pescadero, along with laborers from nearby sawmills, would stop to rest at the Halfway House (known as the "White House"), while their horses stayed in the White Barn.

One of the original metal tie rings used to tether horses over 160 years ago is still hanging on an old oak tree today, slowly being swallowed by the trunk over time. 🌳

On a recent field trip, students got to reach out and literally touch a piece of Hidden Villa's history!
