Yep its San Berdo... but luckily there weren't that many gunshots today. This place is just a little market off 9th and like Sterling, parking is confusing but if you get it figured out, you'll be happy you did.

Now they weren't making their own tortillas, but they did have a big ole pot of carnitas simmering back there. The owner (I think, he looked authoritative) give me the side-eye the whole time, I think he recognized me. Anyway the meat has great flavor and the tacos are packed with meat. They are cheap too like $2.50 each. The place takes credit cards and has a line on weekends. I do recommend this place.

I have driven by this place a few times and I've all ways been told to check it out. Just so happens it was on our way to Fifi's birthday celebration.

So we decided to check it out. I'm glad we did. This place is very cool, has that Mexican Family Restaurant that got some PPP money feel. They have a liquor license too!!! The tacos are good, but I saw hand made flour tortillas going down with homemade beans!!! OMG.

The pastor was just able bitter, but overall it was delicious. It's a sunday afternoon, after golf with the boys, spot for sure.

So I ended up here by mistake, I thought I was going to another taco place, but that place was to the right on Baseline and I took a left.
I saw the ladies cooking out in front of this place and Fifi and I pulled over.

I'm sooo glad I did. So bag tortillas. :( but wow! The meat is so tender, juicy and flavorful that you'll give them a break. I'm partial to the pastor, it was seasoned just right, not over-powering the natural flavor of the pork. Fifi swiped these from me before I could finish them so I know they’re good if she approves. You won't regret going to this little slice of taco heaven.

I think this place just opened in 2021, because I don't remember it being there. Also everything is clean and shiny inside so... It seems like they have a really good idea, just sort of a basic taco shop with a simple menu, kinda like La Central, but not as well executed.

Bag Tortillas, so boo. However, they were cooking them carnitas in a big ole pot traditional style. Actually the carnitas were the star of the show. The other meats were just sort of bland and meh. Salsa could fix it, but handmade tortillas would make this a place I would make a run for. Not bad, but not great. I will go get me a carnitas burrito tho.

So I wanted to like this place. It's very nice inside and the food was really fast... and the salsas in the salsa bar seemed to be freshly made.

However, "bag tortillas" :( ... I haven't eaten a taco in like 3 weeks and wanted my first to be amazing. There were not what I was hoping for. The meat was tender, but just warm and sort of bland. They were too expensive for that.
On the upside, it was fast and the place seems like a nice family spot to enjoy something other than tacos.

Cha Cha's has been a Redlands/Loma Linda go to spot for years.
I've gone here a time for two for Burritos and Taquitos, but never tacos... hmm.

Anyway, now I know why. They do have some interestingly thick and chewy hand made tortillas but there is nothing special about the meat or it's flavor. They also has this kinda tex mex thing going on. Cheddar cheese, lettuce and tomatoes... but then some kinda pastor and carnitas. It's just an off-putting combo.
I wouldn't really come here for the tacos, but the taquitos w/ the guac... I can recommend that.

There are two of these on Whitter Blvd, and apparently they look the same and have the same owners. Ok. I was at the one on the corner of Whitter and Painter... which is the new one? The other one is closer to Old Town Whitter, and I remember driving by it back in the day... but wait my old friend told me they had another location... so f**k I'm not sure which one is the OG spot.

Since I'm not a huge fish taco guy, I never really stopped in when I was a kicking back in Whitter many years ago. There were a lot of good Asada places back in the day and the brand new Norms is where I took all the cuties after the club.

So all I've heard is that Taco's Baja is good and I should check them out. A follower even told me that is his go-to spot in Whitter. Well damn... I hate to tell him that these aren't really that good. They are at best, average tacos. Yea even the fish taco was just "meh" and everything was cold, which I really really hate. They were clean, friendly and the food was priced ok. It just lacked any discernable flavor. I could have been eating wood and I wouldn't have known. I couldn't tell if the tortillas were fresh or not, but they were cold so I'm assuming, no. I wouldn't really go back here for tacos, it just didn't do it for me.

I usually like to go to places that most people don't and find those "hidden gems". This place is not one of those. I went because I saw them on a taco documentary and I was in the area and wanted to see. Hell, I like good hard shelled tacos as much as the next guy, but damn! When I got there, there was a sticker from damn near every taco review guy on the internet (Kinda made me wonder why there aren't more women reviewing food places). It was sort of a let down, since most of them are pretty good at knowing what tastes good and what's just s**t.

So here's the review. The puffy tacos are good, really good... but you know what sucks? CASH ONLY... WTF? They are cash only, you can call ahead for an order, but can't order online. Really... its 2021 people... Oh they have an ATM... how about you add .50 to my order and take my apple pay... ugh.

Seriously, I had to give them 3.5 stars tho, 1/2 star off for "Cash Only". The Asada taco are fire and they made it super fast. The place is spotless, and the staff was really nice, even tho I was paying with like quarters, and there is lots of parking!!! I would go back, if I happened to have some cash on me.

I talked with one of the brothers that owns these trucks/popups, Pablo. They've only been doing this for a couple of years, but DAMN!!!! They are selling pure crack!! When I say this is one of the most delicious tacos I've ever eaten... I'm not bulls**tting you... You will daydream about these.

The taste comes from them hitting all the right keys to a good taco. Wood-fire grilled par-cooked meat, that they finish on the stove top. HANDMADE flour tortillas, some secret vinegar-based red sauce that was amazing. Quick, clean... and for $6.75 a taco... worth every penny. I've been back 2x since this video and they are this good every time.

This is what good street food should taste like. I wish the Bros at Perro 110 much success... I know they got my $$...

So right after I shot this video, one of the owners, Fernando, came out to talk to me. He gave me an earful about how he doesn't like taco reviewers, because they all want some money. Then I told him I don't take money for reviews, and then he wanted to talk tacos. Very nice guy, the shop was his parents and it's been around for 30 years. It's super clean and they move fast. I told him about the bag tortillas, but he said it was what his customers expected. Hmm... We talked white people and carnitas too, which got really funny, but in a nutshell, he believes Americans won't eat the fattier parts of the pig. He might have a point there.

Overall the tacos were really good, my carnitas were dry, and there's those damn bag tortillas, but I would get up off the couch to go get some Asada from here.

So pay no attention to whatever I'm saying in the video about Monterey Park, I called my ex and she said it was in Bellflower. I don't know how I confused Bellflower and Monterey Park, but Bellflower doesn't seem right.

Anyway, I'm not a big fish taco guy and my ex's father was from Veracruz, so that's why we had to have fish tacos, and drive all the way to Bellflower. Damn It's like I'm living someone else's life.

So for a little chain, they have really good service and branding. The tacos are big, and they're expensive, like $3.50 each. However, I would say they are dinner tacos, and not just street snacks. I didn't remember these tacos tasting that great back then, but the Asada and the Pastor were pretty good. The fish taco was "meh". I think they use pre-made tortillas, not bags but they probably outsource them. They were a bit dry.

Overall the meat was tender and fresh, the place is clean and quick, but 3 tacos and a coke was $16. That's a bit much. It's very corporate-ish inside and not cozy at all.

Really I wasn't expecting much. It's in a damn industrial park for crying out loud. The place is kind of homey, cozy, quiet, clean. The tacos are big, like dinner tacos, but they are good. I couldn't tell if they were using bag tortillas or not, even though you can see the stove, the guy just appeared with a few tortillas in his hand, did they come from a bag? Did he just press them out? The mind wobbles.

Honestly, the only issue is those tortilla's act like a big ole sponge and dry your mouth out. If not for that, everything else was very good. This would be a nice spot to sit and have a beer and a wet burrito. It's definitely a destination taco. Clean and super friendly staff, El Matador #1 is a better than average taco spot.
