Rylee’s Blooms Flower Farming in suburban Los Angeles County. Our flowers are for the pollinators and the people. 🌻🐝

We believe in working with beneficial insects instead of using sprays or other things to remove pests in the garden.

Removing my lawn six years ago was the best decision I ever made. Many people doubted me many people told me I was insane but now those same people pull up in front of our yard in complete aw. They instantly feel peace when they walk through the garden and see the butterflies flying over head, lizards running through the grass, hummingbirds drinking nectar from native salivas. It’s one beautiful space that I transformed having zero knowledge of what I was doing. I still don’t but I’m learning as a grow.

Roselle Hibiscus THRIVES in this brutal weather we’ve been having in Southern California.

Sorrel primarily refers to several hardy perennial herbs of the buckwheat family (Polygonaceae), known for their distinctively tart, lemony flavor.

However, the name is also used for a completely unrelated hibiscus plant essential to Caribbean culture.

Because of these distinct botanical varieties, “sorrel” can mean a leafy green vegetable or a vibrant red beverage ingredient. The Caribbean, “sorrel” refers to Roselle, a species of hibiscus. Instead of the leaves, the deep-red fleshy calyces (flower buds) are harvested. They are steeped with ginger, cinnamon, clove, and orange peel to create the iconic, ruby-red Jamaican Sorrel Drink, a festive holiday staple often fortified with Jamaican white rum. Agua de Jamaica is the exact same drink, made from the very same Hibiscus sabdariffa plant.

Grow your own from seed at home. They are incredibly easy to grow. A plant and forget type of plant in my area.

Our second banana harvest from this patch. Plus we have three more fruiting in the front yard. The plant was dying so we knew it was time to remove the fruit but it still seems like it may have been a bit too soon. Banana growers tell me all your secrets please!

As long as my partner doesn’t find out that I just ordered another 225 corms bringing my total to 775 for this year we’re good. I also still have about 600 corms from last season so there will be a ranunculus plant sale for my local garden friends.

My little urban flower farm has brought me more peace, understanding, and happiness than I could have ever dreamed of.
