Hang the Puerto Rican Flag 🇵🇷 check!
During a period known as the Gag Law (Law 53), in effect from 1948 to 1957; Puerto Ricans faced the threat of ten years in prison or a $10,000 fine (or both) for displaying or possessing the Puerto Rican flag. This law was a direct violation of the First Amendment rights of Puerto Ricans, who were granted U.S. citizenship in 1917. The Gag Law was ultimately repealed in 1957 because it was deemed unconstitutional.
THIS IS WHY WE RAISE OUR FLAG WITH PRIDE!!! 🇵🇷
