Dear Friends,


We invite you to celebrate Juneteenth early with us in Little Toyko. On Sunday, June 16th, at 7:30PM, the lovely family behind Azay (226 East First Street) will open their doors to de Porres and our guests. If you attended our 2019 Juneteenth feast, much of this menu will look familiar. The fact of the matter is that we could hardly improve upon the pig feet terrine and smothered quail with oyster cornbread dressing and greens. We’re adding a bisque made with wild local ridgeback prawns. As for the chicken gizzards cooked confit, they became a staple of my cooking the year I spent back in Louisville. Although I grew up eating deep fried gizzards, I found that when prepared this way, they become more tender without losing their rustic charm. They’ll complete a salad of farmers’ market lettuces, shallots, and herbed buttermilk dressing. We’ll finish with sweet potato pie and two ice creams because… why not?



Tickets are $120 without pairings and $150 with. Guests can also order butter pecan or vanilla ice cream for takeout at $16/pint. There is no charge for corkage. Am I wrong in thinking these cold nights call for a rich meat pie? Yesterday’s dinner was beef braised in wine with onions, carrots, bacon, potatoes, and lots of peas. It was so good we’ve decided to offer it to you. There’s also the option of chicken pot pie with leeks, carrots, peas, potatoes, and lots of herbs. Red Lobster-inspired cheddar chive biscuits are on the menu, along with my GRACEful Peanut Butter Ice Cream.

Delivery is $20 and will be Sunday, January 21st, between noon and 3PM. Orders can be placed here and must be received by Wednesday, the 17th.

Hello and Happy New Year!

Last night we celebrated my mother’s birthday with some of her favorites: beet citrus feta salad and she crab soup. Pablo made oysters Rockefeller. I don’t know what she thought about them but I’m almost certain she would have loved his as much as I do. My first attempt at a jam cake left plenty to be desired so I didn’t bother putting frosting on it. Thankfully, the peanut butter ice cream was superb. If Grace Bell were to miraculously come back to this unworthy Earth of ours, I’d make her one thousand pints of it. Here’s how:

GraceFUL Peanut Butter Ice Cream

(makes a little over two pints)


Ingredients

1 cup whole milk/ See notes

1 pint heavy cream

3/4 cup granulated sugar

3 tablespoon dark brown sugar

1 vanilla bean (optional) / See notes

1/2 teaspoon kosher salt

6 large egg yolks

1/4 cup + 2 tablespoons peanut butter/ See notes

This holiday season we’re bringing back a few de Porres favorites and debuting a butterscotch ice cream with bits of Littlejohn’s English toffee. Some of you will remember last year’s Nesselrode Bula. Inspired by a dear friend, this ice cream has a chestnut rum base, pecans, pineapples, and booze-drenched raisins and cherries. We’re also offering pimento cheese, greens pie, and a ganache tart with a gingersnap crust that you can add toffee to. My mother’s caramel poundcake is on the menu and so are biscuits.

Pick up is available on December 24th, from noon-1PM, at Amara Kitchen’s Altadena location (841 E Mariposa St, Altadena, CA 91001). Delivery will be from noon-3PM for $20. If you’d like anything on this menu delivered prior to the 24th or would like us to cater something special, please let us know.

Dear Friends,

Last month we hosted our first dinner series in two years. The evening was dedicated to my late mother. We served some of her favorite dishes and played many of her favorite songs. Of our thirty four guests, the youngest was twelve years old. This would’ve thrilled Grace Bell, a woman who proudly did not raise picky eaters.

Thank you to all who joined us at . I’ll forever be grateful for the space to celebrate my mother so publicly and deliciously. If you’re bummed about not being there, don’t worry, there will be more dinners in the future and all will have touches of Grace. Until then, we’re available for catering events big and small. For something a little different, there’s always the Biscuit Bar.

Pick up will be Sunday, September 3rd from 1PM to 2:30PM at Leora Cafe (UTA Plaza, 9346 Civic Center Dr Suite 125, Beverly Hills, CA 90210). Let us know if you need delivery and we will do our best to accommodate you. Additionally, our dinner series returns to Moonwater Farm the following Sunday, September 10th.
