Our Nankai Imo Black sweet potato shochu from is incredible on its own with notes of chestnut, caramel, and lychee.

But did you know that pairing it with a Japanese melon soda is absolutely bonkers good. Apparently melons and sweet potatoes go well together.

3 oz Nankai Imo Black shochu
3 oz Melon Soda or Cream Melon Soda

On this day eight years ago, our first shipment of Nankai Shochu arrived. We are so very thankful to all of you for making our journey, our passionate labor of love, possible despite the challenges of the beverage industry.

We believe in our dream that shochu will become as popular as other spirits, and we’ll keep bringing what we drink at our home to yours.

Say hello to the She So Good, a highball perfect for the summer with subtle sweetness and a little saltiness. Combining crisp and refreshing Nankai Shochu with uniquely aromatic red shiso syrup from , this cocktail pairs well with sushi, yakitori, ramen, and other Japanese foods.

Red shiso, also known as yukari or red perilla, is an herb often used in making umeboshi, or Japanese pickled plum.

SHE SO GOOD

2 oz Nankai Shochu
1 oz Red Shiso Syrup
2 oz Soda Water
0.5 oz Simple Syrup (optional)

Combine all ingredients in a glass with ice. Stir gently. Garnish with a shiso leaf. You can also try it with a squeeze of lime.

Shochu Month is back in Los Angeles and you have to try the incredible tiki-style cocktail “Amami Jay” featured at .

From the fun-filled brain of comes “Amami Jay,” which combines Nankai Gold, a sesame oil wash, pineapple, banana, lemon and a red miso and cinnamon syrup to conjure images of our beloved Amami Island. Fresh fruit followed by complex umami notes make this an instant classic.

Bonus fact: Kokuto shochu is made from kokuto sugar, which makes it a close relative of rum (except for the single distillation and mandatory use of koji).

It’s Shochu Month in Los Angeles, and we’re ecstatic to have a Nankai cocktail featured at .

“Banzai Fields Forever” is EO’s spin on the classic kamikaze shot, but beautifully transformed by and to balance kokuto shochu with kalamansi, kumquat, and makrut lime. And the dehydrated lime leaf dust on the rim is just wow.

Nankai Imo Black is here! Our very first imo (sweet potato) shochu.

Here’s what makes Nankai Imo Black unique and delicious:

- Made from local Kagoshima sweet potatoes, rice and Ibusuki underground spring water.
- Fermented with black koji in priceless 150-year-old clay tsubo vessels.
- Aroma: Fruity, floral with orange peel and roasted yams.
- Palate: Smooth with chestnuts, lychee and spice.

As always with our shochu: no sugar, carbs, gluten or additives.

We started Nankai Shochu out of love for Amami Island and Kokuto Shochu, but we’ve become friends with other talented distillers, like . That’s why we started a new line called Nankai Selection, where Paul and Mai handpick their favorites outside of Amami Island and bring them to the U.S.

We only sell what we drink, and at this point we need to start selling more than we drink. Know what we mean?
