The Chemical Manager will be responsible for supervising pest management programs for our orchards divisions. You will also be responsible for identifying pests, weeds and other organisms in the fields, as well as implementing updated practices on a regular basis. You must be able to work well with others and maintain a quality work that meets the high standards of the company.
✅RESPONSIBILTIES & DUTIES:
• Walnut disease and pest management: Scouting, monitoring, and implementation of control measures and maintaining accurate records.
• Pest control recommendations and county reporting.
• Follow up on chemical applicators & applications to check efficiency.
• Work with Harvest Crews and Harvest Mangers to determine quality controls.
• Environmental chemical hazard awareness.
• Help in maintaining spray, implements, chemical storage areas, as well as chemical inventories.
• Prepare and work within budget perimeters.
• Work with Ranch Managers to coordinate pesticide applications.
• Continuing education to increase chemical knowledge level and legislature updates.
• Implement new, changed and discontinued fertilizer/chemical/insecticides records. To include update MSDA, etc. in binders. Set up County registrations.
• Input, print and distribute recommendations.
• Review application and purchase reports for accuracy.
• Make recommendations for price and purchase of fertilizers and chemicals.
• Monthly transmittal of chemical application reports to county.
• Manage all soil and leaf sampling.
• All other duties as assigned.
✅QUALIFICATIONS:
• Minimum of a Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Agriculture or related field.
• Preferably 2-4 years of work related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• PCA license preferred.
• Computer Skills: Microsoft word/excel/outlook.
• Knowledge of agriculture chemicals.
• Strong leadership skills.
• Excellent time management skills.
• Ability to work with many personalities.
• Excellent Observation skills.
• Must keep accurate record keeping and documentation in the daily/monthly planner supplied by the company each year.
• Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
• Ability to speak English and Spanish preferred.
• Must pass physical and drug test.
