I’ve gotten some comments and compliments on having clean eggs, as well as some questions about how they are so clean if I’m not washing them. The biggest factor to having clean eggs, is having a clean coop.

Once eggs are washed, they have to be refrigerated because the protective layer, called the bloom, is washed off. If they are unwashed, they will be safe to eat for at least a couple of weeks without being refrigerated. You should always give them a quick wash before using them. Still, nobody wants filthy eggs.

We are OPEN!

It’s been a couple weeks but I’m happy to say we are open again. The new stand is in a slightly different location which will hopefully be better for keeping the direct sunlight off everything.

We have:
Eggs
Apple spice cake mix
Biscuit mix
Ranch dressing and dip mix
Tomatoes
Peppers
And various types of jams and jellies available.

I may have been on a little hiatus, but apparently my goats did not get the memo. Their commitment to getting into trouble remains as strong as ever.

This is Petunia, AKA Tuners, helping herself to a little leftover corn from feeding the chickens this morning. Why go graze in the field when you can just climb up and help yourself to some treats? 🐐🌽

Some exciting egg news from Sweet P’s! 🥚🐔 A few of my younger girls have officially started laying, which is great timing because I can hardly keep enough eggs in the stand!

I’ll also be putting up a new farmstand in the next few days. The old one has been limping along since it was damaged in the storm a couple months ago, so I’m excited to finally get its replacement up and running. Hopefully between the new layers and the new stand, I can keep up with y’all a little better. ☺️

In the meantime, can we appreciate these two eggs I collected yesterday? 😂 One is so big it won’t even fit in an egg carton, and the other is a teeny little “fairy egg.” Fairy eggs are pretty common with young hens who are just starting to lay, and this little one didn’t even have a yolk!

That’s one of the fun things about truly farm-fresh eggs, they don’t come off an assembly line. They can be big, small, round, pointy, speckled, all sorts of colors, and occasionally downright ridiculous. 😂 I usually save the smaller ones for our family and put the nice big ones in the stand, but every once in a while the chickens remind me that they’re in charge of quality control. 🐔🥚

I can’t tell you how happy this lil strawberry made me. Crazy that I’m still picking strawberries clear into September!

Just a quick note to apologize for not having stocked the stand the last few days. I made a trip to urgent care on Friday and found myself in the operating room over the weekend. Nothing major and I am home and on the mend! The girls have still been laying so I will be trying to get eggs out there at least this week.

I also have some apples that I’ll be dehydrating so I can get some apple spice cake mix out there for you guys in the near future. Just give me a few days to recover ☺️

We do have some fresh tomatoes and peppers today, free for the taking!

I've also added a breakfast basket: biscuit mix, eggs, and 2 jars of jelly. Great for a gift or a quick and easy breakfast.

Have you ever met anyone who had free range guinea pigs? Yeah, me neither, but here we are. Over a year ago my daughter decided she wanted some guinea pigs. She bought them herself at the Amish market in Englewood. I told her she'd have to pay for their food and litter. She agreed.

It didn't take long for her to realize that they were not super social and they were messy and smelly. She wanted them outside.

We put them in an old bunny hutch and would bring them in when it got too cold.

We tried to rehome them to no avail.

Eventually they escaped. I put them back and tried to fix it so it wouldn't happen again, but it did. At that point I couldn't catch them and, after about an hour, I gave up.

It's been a year now. They go in and out of the chicken coop and the barn as they please. They are happy and healthy as ever and they get along with the chickens, pigs, cats, and goats. So there you have it, we have free range guinea pigs. Both male, so no breeding to worry about 😂
