Elberton Farm

We are a 3 generations old thoroughbred breeding farm. The land was owned by early Hopkins ancestors, dating back to Gerrard Hopkins in 1658.

Elberton Hill Farm is situated in the beautiful rolling hills of Darlington, Maryland, with panoramic views down to the Susquehanna River. The farm is recorded in the Land Preservation Bank.

Our Story

Elberton Hill Farm is situated in the beautiful rolling hills of Darlington, Maryland, with panoramic views down to the Susquehanna River. The land was owned by early Hopkins ancestors, dating back to Gerrard Hopkins in 1658. It is located 7 miles from I-95, between Baltimore and Wilmington. It is easily accessible to all major east coast farms and race tracks. The farm is recorded in the Land Preservation Bank and has services avialable for board.

Frank and Martha Hopkins and their four children have lived on Elberton Hill Farm since 1965. Frank Sr. passed away in 2003, but his family has kept traditions alive. Frank Hopkins, Sr. served two terms as a member of the Maryland Racing Commission. He was also on the Cecil County Breeders Board and the Fair Hill International Board. Previously he was vice president of the Maryland Horse Breeders and served on the original Maryland Million Board.

Frank Jr., Mike, Boo and Amy have grown up being a part of the thoroughbred horse operation. They have always been involved with the breeding and maintenance of the farm. Part of the boys' training was to go with Windfields Farm to Saratoga for 3 summers to attend the sales in August when they were 10 and 12 years old. Today, Boo resides in South Caroline and the rest of the family still lives on the farm.

Frank, Jr. works actively as the owner of an owner operated trucking company. Mike is Executive Director of the Maryland Racing Commission and works as Chief Steward for the Maryland Jockey Club when needed. In 2018, Mike was awared the touch of class award by the department of agriculture for his work with the equine industry. Amy Hopkins Daney has been manager of the farm for over 25 years. Amy's husband, Michael, owns his own firm with several other lawyers in Ellicot City. Amy and Michael currently own 3 broodmares who reside on the farm.
