I was just talking about this recipe for Roly Poly today! Bob had said that his mom had made it. I had to search to find it!

So many people wanted the recipe for Rolly Polley, so here it is!
4 cups blackberries, washed
1/2 cup sugar +1 tsp sugar For dough+2 tsp sugar to sprinkle over dough
Juice of 1/2 lemon
1 3/4 cups flour
1 tsp salt
1 tsp baking powder
1/4 cup shortening
2/3 cup plus 1Tbsp milk
2 Tbsp butter, melted
1 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
Combine and mix gently blackberries, 1/2 cup sugar and lemon juice. Set to the side. In another bowl mix flour, salt, baking powder and 1tsp sugar. Cut in shortening. Add milk and mix well until dough is soft. Then roll dough to about 3/8 inch thickness. Brush with melted butter and sprinkle with cinnamon. Spread Blackberry mixture onto rolled out dough, roll up and shape in a ring on a well greased 14x10 inch pan (or shape to fit a similar pan but should be about 2 inches deep to catch Blackberry juices. Sprinkle 2 tsp sugar over dough ring. Bake in preheated oven @ 425 for 25 to 30 minutes or until golden brown on top. Spread Blackberry juice drippings from the pan over your dough ring and serve warm with ice cream.
