Bear and Tank… the farm’s favorite comedy duo. 🐾🤣

For five years, Bear has taken his job as head of security very seriously. Tank, on the other hand, has taken his job as Bear’s full-time little brother very seriously.

Bear patrols the farm with dignity. Tank patrols Bear’s patience. Bear watches for predators. Tank watches for opportunities to wrestle.

Somehow, the calm old soul and the class clown make the perfect team. Through every chore, every pasture patrol, and every afternoon nap, these two have been inseparable.

They’re more than livestock guardians—they’re brothers… and life on the farm wouldn’t be nearly as entertaining without them. ❤️

My beloved cats, who vanished after their home, my high tunnel, was devastated in April, have returned!!! Kitty came back first several days ago, pretty underweight but alive, followed by Marshmallow today who grabbed my hand affectionately demanding scritches. Clearly he missed me too.

Their survival is a testament to their resilience, and I'm overwhelmed with joy, thanking God for bringing them back home.

I love all my animals, especially my cats. They help protect the veggies and flowers from rodents and in return I get to love them.

Life lately on the farm…

Porter has discovered that the grass is always greener on the other side of the fence… and he’s perfecting his best downward-facing dog pose to prove it. 😂

Meanwhile, these hens have unanimously decided their nesting box is overrated and have chosen a much more “exclusive” location instead.

Faith is having the time of her life, stopping to admire the native wildflowers almost as much as the geese do. 🌼

The high tunnel continues to come back to life after its major repair and facelift. With every project finished, it’s looking a little more like the productive space it was meant to be.

There is always something to fix, build, or laugh about on the farm… and honestly, I wouldn’t have it any other way.

God is good, and life on the farm is pretty great. ❤️🌾

There’s something peaceful about sitting back and watching the Cotton Patch Geese free-ranging, enjoying whatever spoils they can find. It’s a beautiful reminder of the simple blessings God has entrusted me to steward. I don’t take that responsibility—or these daily moments of joy—lightly.

Even if the geese are convinced they’re the ones running the farm. 😜

The turkey babies are growing like weeds and acting like tiny feathered velociraptors—flitting around the pasture, chasing bugs, and enjoying the fresh green grass.

Meanwhile, Thanksgiving is quietly getting closer…

Life lately on the farm…

The high tunnel has officially been given a complete makeover after that April storm decided to redecorate it for me. It’s now fully reskinned and better than ever—so serious gardening can finally begin! Polycarbonate end walls are a game changer.

I also removed most of the plastic around the goose pens. The goslings are old enough now that they don’t need quite so much protection. The turkey babies and one very late-hatched gosling still have their plastic “storm shelter” in place, just in time for the next round of Kansas weather drama.

With the plastic mostly gone, everyone has much better airflow, so I’m not worried about them getting too hot. The birds are happy, the high tunnel is standing tall, and for the first time in a while it feels like the farm is winning instead of the weather. 😊

Turkey poults anyone? These Blue Slate heritage turkey babies are 3 weeks old and ready for farm life! Great for a farm-to-table Thanksgiving dinner or simply enjoying the daily chaos and comedy turkeys provide.

Heritage turkeys grow slower than commercial breeds, making them better at walking, foraging, and getting into trouble.

Fair warning: buy “just a couple,” and you may end up attached to tiny feathered lawn supervisors.
