Turkey poults anyone? These Blue Slate heritage turkey babies are 3 weeks old and ready for farm life! Great for a farm-to-table Thanksgiving dinner or simply enjoying the daily chaos and comedy turkeys provide.

Heritage turkeys grow slower than commercial breeds, making them better at walking, foraging, and getting into trouble.

Fair warning: buy “just a couple,” and you may end up attached to tiny feathered lawn supervisors.

New arrivals, right on farm time (which is to say… a little early and completely on their own schedule 😅).

Our Cotton Patch goslings decided to make their debut a day ahead of schedule, and I’m not mad about it. One of my favorite things about this breed? They come out already telling you who’s who—boys and girls are easy to spot at hatch, which makes pairing them up for future breeding simple and stress-free.

Round two is already in the works—another nest should be hatching in the next few days. If you’ve been thinking about adding Cotton Patch Geese to your setup, I’ll have unrelated breeding pairs available in about 2–3 weeks. Get ready… the cuteness (and productivity) is about to double.

Welcome Ronald McDonald (Jersey) and Porter House (Holstein) to the farm!

Yes… they’re dairy boys.
Yes… they’re bottle babies.
And yes… they’ve unknowingly joined the “long-term freezer investment program.” 🥩

I helped hand raise Jersey steers from our milk cow growing up so this is a way of farm life. For now, it’s bottles, snuggles, and farmyard fame… but in about two years, they’ll be fulfilling their true destiny—stocking the Gabel family freezer like absolute legends.

Circle of life, but make it farm life. 🤠

Faith, my up-and-coming livestock protector, sneaks a peek to see if Bear has finished his five-star meal. She has wisely learned the golden rule: approach the bowl only after the boss has left the building. Until then… she observes from a safe and respectful distance 😂

They’re still working on their partnership. Bear is slowly accepting his new coworker… emphasis on slowly. Let’s just say HR is monitoring the situation.

But one thing’s for sure—I love my Anatolian Shepherds. Since bringing Bear on board, I’ve had zero losses in 4 years. Not bad for a grumpy supervisor and his eager assistant.

They’re currently listed as Threatened by The Livestock Conservancy, which makes raising and breeding them even more meaningful. I’m doing my part by offering unrelated breeding pairs to help preserve and grow their population.
